Nice work Rudy. I thought the body removal was going to be a group project. How did you get it separated?

I was wondering the same thing...I assumed it was a "work bee" project;) Well, that was the plan originally. However, my engine crane got "trapped" in the building with the 67 by Old Man Winter. I decided to try using it to lift the body and it worked out great. I attached a chain to the two rear gas tank mounts in the front and lifted from there. In the rear I drilled a piece of formed channel and bolted it to the hood hinge brackets and lifted the rear from there.

Thanks Mike. I already found another use for it too. I stripped out the old fuel line and replaced it with a 5/16 line and used the cable window to clamp down the new line in that area. The new line has an exit on the side of the tunnel in the front like the 75 and newer cars. I feed the line in from the back and put some short lengths of rubber hose over it where it exits the tunnel front and back to protect it. Here's some pics: I also relocated the shifter. VW moved the shifter back in 1968 when the straight shifter was introduced and again in 73 when the seats were revised. I relocated the shifter to the 1973 position lengthwise and moved it to the right about 3/4 inch, which is approx centered in the tunnel. Hopefully a 73 up shift shaft will work with this without any modification. Here is the "Oh man, now what have I done" stage: The shift shaft bracket used as a fixture: And the "this might just work" stage:

...and Rudy has developed the ultimate, light VW chassis. I think that he is planning on using a hand throttle and clutch to control it.

I should loan u a 2.3 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, someday I have a 2234cc IDA motor, but it isn't apt to get in this car. We will see what can be done with 1600cc. BTW the Steve Tims Stage 1 heads arrived Fri for the 1520cc LSR motor. That one will probably spend some time in the 67 for testing. I welded in the 1/2 pan yesterday, I know Dave: too heavy! I and was kind of disappointed with how it went. The replacement part had all the paint removed and 3/16 holes drilled every inch to plug weld to the lip of the pan. The lip of the pan was ground clean. A couple of the plug welds "popped" (heard them but couldn't tell which ones). I flipped the pan over and fillet welded the edge of the lip to the replacement. It is certainly strong enough now, but not what I had intended. Next time the lip will be sandblasted clean.

Whenever possible, I blast before welding. Grinding can introduce contaminates into the weld area.

Nice work on the shifter move. I like the extra lightening holes around the original spot. Now I am wondering if I should have put in a bigger fuel line. I stayed with the stock one....
