Almost got the upper trans mount done. I put a 3/4 square tube under the package tray and made a plate to tie into the upper transmission bolts. The tube extends to the inner quarter panels and will be welded in place. Working under the car and trying to get everything to line up was an pain in the "extreme lower back." The thought is to get a little extra support for the transmission from the package tray and firewall. As long as they are along for the ride, might as well put them to work ;D

Wow, this was a big job. Took me 2 months and a day to accomplish this. Well, about 2 months, 23-1/2 hours of this was getting myself to do it. Not something I'm comfortable with, but will really help with engine changes, etc.

Nice. Looks like a much better set up than mine. I don't know about that. Yours would be a lot easier to undo. It is my hope that a single carb motor will slide in and out of this pretty quickly. Plan is to make easily removable replacements for the parts that were cut off. Time will tell

That is almost exactly where Blu is cut. I can pull my dual carbed engine in minutes!

I've been trying to get something done every day on the 67. Got the support bar welded to the body. sanding the underside of the package tray was a good way to get really dirty! Still rust gave me a little grief when welding, especially on the ends in the wheelwells. There is probably some nasty stuff between the inner fender and the panel that attaches to the frame horns. Also filled the area where I'd drilled the spot welds for the rear seat belt anchors and made the heater channels more aerodynamic like this:

I've been trying to get something done every day on the 67. This car just might make it to the track this summer! Aero on the inside of the car?

The pan and body are separated again for now. The first thing I did was get rid of almost 2 lb of the most usless parts on any Bug (IMHO) The next order of business was to finish weld the midmount. When doing this on the 68, the frame horns drew about 1/8 inch closer together. To overcome this I got out my handy dandy "horn spreader" and spread the horns by about 1/4 inch prior to welding. I welded first on the edge towards the front of the car and did it in one pass. I then went to the edge towards the rear and again welded the joint in one pass. After flipping the pan, the same procedure was used on the other side. Once everything had cooled to room temperature, I removed the spreader. The horns measure good doing it this way, but we will see what happens when it is time to reassemble
