Dan:
Sounds like the "good" sort of fun things to do. Can't wait to see what it looks like all set up, and more importantly, how it runs with the FI!
Should make a big difference when you autocross.

Strange stuff Ive learned about the version I got. Its NOT a sequential fire system (I always thought it was) so it fires all four injectors at the same time but changes the pulse width to control fuel ratio, kinda like the 80's throttle body injection. Mind you everything is there to make it a sequential fire system but would need a new computer and the addition of a crank sensor and a map sensor. For now I just want to get the thing running again and then maybe next year monkey with the idea of an upgrade. Still should be more dialed in than the carbs. Got the manifolds today UPS so cant wait to start putting this jigsaw together. Pretty much have the wiring together. just need to work on the fuel lines/fittings

At the us131 show I destroyed first gear (never do a 4000 rpm clutch drop!! DOH!) anyway removed the motor and trans. Took the trans back to B&M trans so they are redoing the thing and upgrading a few things as well. Decided Id to a small refresh on the motor (retorque the head bolts and such) and found some things not right even though it was running pretty well. Found two elephant feet broken off two rockers (my fault, shimmed so that the feet were too cranked in), Found #1 cylinder musta swallowed a washer or something. Necessary to re hone the cylinder, install new rings, and clean the piston that now has some indentations on it. The rest is just a matter of a good cleaning and Im replacing some really worn out tin. Found the fan was ovaled out again! Got a new fan this time (scat) and is supposed to be a bit better (welded) and I got a new fan shroud and cylinder tin from scat as well (much thicker gage metal this scat stuff). So the motor is taking up most of the garage (all scattered), when done I have a guys squareback to get running again. fun fun let the winter begin.

Hey Dan,I do 6000+ rpm launches all the time!! first u NEVER "drop the clutch'!!! Hold E-brake or staging brake and feather out clutch until u feel car move ,this tighten up the gears/drive train, NO PLAY= no breaky last yellow light release both handbrake&clutch at the same time!!! takes a little practice I thought u broke a spider gear or axle/side gear, ask B&M to install a SB/late model first gear shaft, they are more HD, without going Berg=$$$$$

Supposedly he (B&D turns out) is replacing the main shaft with one that is supposed to flex for less breaky breaky. I should be getting the trans back next week, then the reassembly begins. Found a lot of small damage in the motor while I had it out (two broken elephant feet and a badly scratched and pummeled #1 cylinder) replaced all the feet and added another shim, Honed #1 and replaced the rings. Musta ate a washer or something. All back together now and just waiting on the transaxle. Also picked up a rear sway bar to help with the cone racing. CAnt wait for Ally to be whole again. I also have a turbo off of a 2.0 ecotech that Ive been kicking around to install now that I have fuel injection..... Whatcha think?? It is a packaging nightmare and I would probably mount it off the rear exh manifold like truck nutz.

Do ur homework on Turbo application can't just bolt them on and expect a well tuned engine ;)ask Clinton what to do with F.I. he's been fiddle'n with it for a few YEARS now as in just bolted to the "Mullet" all new header must be made, 1 5/8 will work for a 2276cc

Not in a rush to play with the turbo though would be interested in the challenges of running it with the cb fuel injection. Id run it probably 6 pounds of boost. Right now just putting Ally back together. Trans is back in and getting ready to pop the gone through motor back in.

Which CB kit are you using? I could never get my CB kit to run right but, it was a swap meet purchase that was based on an early GM ecu.

As soon as December rolls around, I am removing Ally's 2276 as it is time for its first rebuild. Engine now have roughly 60k on it and lets face it has been a gem (shot block wise). So I picked up some CB wedge port heads and a few other goodies as well as a 1979 case that has low miles and has never been rebuilt. This will eliminate the fuel pump blockoff plate as well as take care of some annoying leaks and the dreaded "repaired" engine mount hole. Ill be adding some trick valve train as well. I also need to replace a fragged shifter rod bushing with a cool copper unit. Ill also spiff up a few things while Im at it.

Dan: I am anxious to hear how the cool copper shift rod bushing works out.
