Well,I just couldn't get the thing to run right. I thought i had it but no. Just kept getting worse. Wasnt from lack of effort ill tell ya that (thanks again Patrick).Today I finally had enough and put the stock set up back on.....what a difference! I guess maybe I should have left it that way from the start like dave suggested. Lol. Ill learn someday! Thanks for putting up with me everyone!

Those EMPI 40 hpmx's are supposed to be very nice carbs. Very drivable, very easy to tune.
Good luck! Hopefully we will see you at the Bug Run tomorrow!

From what I understand, the HPMX's had some problems early on, casting flaws and other quality control issues. They may have gotten things sorted out now. The carb in question has 28 vents, 60 idles, 135 mains, and 160 airs, with 50 pump jets, which should be "in the ballpark" for a single 2bbl on a 1679cc. I believe Jerry may have been battling an early version of the HPMX.

I was battling something thats for sure! Hahaha. Im not sure what the deal with it is. Probably something stupid and easy like a clogged jet passage or something. But after about 3 weeks of fighting with it I was over it. Runs alot better with the stocker on it now. Still have some tuning to do but its at least drivable now. Whats everyone's opinion on a single progressive carb? I will upgrade at some point but have a ton of other stuff to do before I think more of performance parts Im just happy to drive it! Unfortunately I can not make it to the bug run tomorrow family stuff going on. Believe me I tried to get out of it! Wish I could go.
