On the road again! I managed to get the bearings squared away this afternoon and put several miles on it before storing it away for the evening. There's still a big punch-list (door window scrapers, seat belts, carpet, alignment, blah blah) but it's nice to finally have a driveable car after 18 months.

Finally had the rear tires mounted (I was pretty frightened of the 30+ year old rubber that was still on the back) and fit the discs. Now the Sunbug is officially the Moonbug! There's still a lot of details to iron out, but it is driveable and I ended up taking it home over the weekend when the starter on my MGB/GT blew up. I really dig the rubber rake I have with the 135 fronts / 165 rears, although the whole car still needs to come down about 2 inches. Once the budget allows I'll pick up a good narrowed front beam (unless someone reading this happens to have a 4" narrowed one lying around.. hint hint!) and put my drop spindles on it. And yes, I know I need to mow my lawn!

You need one of these... Dave Riedle Yeah, I've thought about it. Problem is, they're not real Moon, they're the Speedway version (half the price). Still. I do have a couple of cool window stickers in the back though... The Ziebart sticker is original to the car (don't believe me, just look in the trunk, inside the door panels, etc. That crap is everywhere) and the other one I picked up last fall at Mid America Motorworks in their collection sale. It's a real original Fahrvergnugen sticker from 1990.

It's EMPI or something unremarkable. There was a parts sticker on it but it was too faded to read by the time I got ahold of it.
The rear is actually at stock height for the 74. I'll drop that with the torsion bars easily enough when the time comes.

I finally pulled the trigger and called the insurance company and install road coverage on Simon then took him up and down the road for his first voyage. I still have a few things to work out but I tracked the first two miles on the new setup and so far I like it.

That stinks Mike. At least MSD will take care of it if you send it back to them. Are you using the little rubber mounts to mount the unit?

Mounted T-bars on my '74 today. It was a bit of work as they're not really made for cars that are supposed to have shock mounted bumpers. Added 2" to the length of the rears in order to catch the forward mounting bolts and had to add an inch to the top of the front bars to catch the top bolt. Along with having to drill and tap a broken bolt (not my doing) in the front L/H mount this took most of the afternoon. Might've gone faster without the fender on... oh well. Will play around with what to fill the holes with at some point, but at the moment a large pot of chili is calling my name from the kitchen... Attachments:

Made some progress with Simon today. He actually made a clean trip up and down the road. The engine felt strong and made a easy 10 pounds of boost. Now for some fine tuning.
