How do I know if I have a 1200 or a 1300? I talked to a previous owner today that had the car since the early 80's. He said that when he bought it it didnt have an engine and he put the one that I have in it but didnt know what size it was - just knew it was a 40 hp. He drove every day to work for years he said.

Im pretty sure you have a 1200 due to the funky bolts we came accross attatching it to the trans. + the heads looked funky as well and looked different than the 1500 I have at the house. Its def old school looking so Im saying its a 1200 but check out the code on the block.
So how was your parts hunt today?

Looks like a 1200 to me ;D you can tell on the intake where it bolts on the head,,1200's are solid as where the 1300-1500 swivel

Bought my floor pans and heater channels yesterday from Randy. Very nice guy and he has tons of new parts at his shop. Definitely will be making another trip soon. Thanks for recommending Randy as a source for my parts!

Aaron, your wife posted some pics of the chassie on Facebook. Post em here as well and let me know how you are doing. Are you working on the heater chanels first or the chassie floors? I gotta come over one day to see where you are at. Oh and dont forget to pick up muirs book.

The bently manual is fine and all. But Yes muirs book is an entertaining read and actually has some very usefull info for the first time stock vw owner. I think for his first vw this is a better book to get. Has everything you need for a pre 66 stock car.

I made another trip to see Randy for some more sheet metal yesterday. Worked on cleaning the pans off the chassis today. I will be doing the pans first. Got a pretty good idea of how I will be attacking the chassis after talking to randy. I will try to post a couple pics after I figure out how.
