Got anything in mind for your drag only car? Are you going to do a striped down car like Rudy to get the weight out? That is what I am thinking with the '64.

Hey guys. Just get a rusty bug.  That should keep the weight down. I have seen VW's that seem to be nothing more than rust molecules holding hands...those should be VERY light. Who needs floorpans, heater channels, etc? Dave |

I would vote for the "if it starts with a 16XX, it qualifies. Bottles and turbos are fun, but they really fly in the face of the low cost racer idea.
The over 16 Sec. thing is pretty cool as well.
I would be a bit worried about a completely stock rule. Most of us have installed a few "toys" on our cars and really like the bit of extra it provides us in our daily drivers. I wouldn't want to cut out the folks that have added a pipe, or a carb, or an ignition. It don't really think it makes that much difference.
We could call it the "Sixteen Class" : Displacement needs to start with a 16XX and it needs to run over 16 seconds. That allows the buggies and tubs and buses to run as well. This also takes the weight question out. If it breaks 16 Sec. your out. You get promoted to the next level. Real simple.
If your car runs 18's, strip all the interior out, empty the tank, and fill the interior with helium balloons, then explain that to the wife; good luck.
Now, bracketed, or straight up? I like the bracketed myself, it lets the "bone stock" guy run with the "fixed up a bit" guy, but they are still pretty much side by side. That seems kind of important.
In the end, I have to say that I agree with the folks that are coming at this from the angle of getting more cars out there to race. That is pretty cool and seems like the real goal here.

Well I'm in the 18's but already did most of the stuff to get there. Were do I get the helium balloons? I'm looking for .6 to get to the 17's, do you think that will do it?
Actually plan for this year is:
1)earlier trans with 4.37 R&P Vs 4.12 and 1.32 3rd Vs 1.36
2)drop 25lb
3)reduce the weight of the car too
4)solid mounts so it can be driven off the line at more than an idle (watch out Steve, I coming after you)
5)maybe spindle mounts up front instead of full disc brakes.
Yeah, I'm 0% along with #2 and the off season is 50% gone

No Fiberglass  that leaves me out ;D My bug has a glass frontend,Oh well even the VolkRod has fiberglass hood & roof ;D ;D 16 second is too slow for me anyhow I'd fall a sleep before I get to the traps ;D ;D ;D ;D |
