So, there has been some discussion of drag racing 'stock 1600' cars like Rudy and Steve were doing last season. Seems like we could get more people into racing as this is a fairly low cost way to get into it. What do you think about this idea? Who would be interested in doing this? Should we have any rules for this racing 'class' such as max cc's or what?
My thoughts: The simpler we keep the rules the easier and cheaper it is for people to get involved. To get a group of VW's out on the drag strip on a fairly regular basis that all run close to the same times would be a blast.

What is stock?? Your rail? Mine? Ruffuss? Stock case? Stock carbs? Tires? Wheels? Are these the questions?

The rules would be real important if it is a heads up class, less so if run off a dial in.
My self imposed restrictions on the 68 are: 1584cc max 1584lb min
Goal for next year is 1/4 mile times in the 17's. Current best is 18.6 (used stock engine and 1660lb)
Using a single bbl 34mm max throttle bore carb is a great equalizer. I will bring rule books from SCORE and Midwest Council to the Jan GTG so we can look at their restrictive classes.
Well, I can't find the rulebooks. Might have tossed them as they were about 10yrs old. We probably just want to do our own thing anyway for rules. It sure seems like the most fun is to run close to each other.

I would love to get in on this but if its heads up I am at a serious disadvantage with autostick and a heavy superbeetle. I would like to see it as a bracket with max cc's being anything starting with 16 with any type of vehicle and wheels used.

I just got a set of dual 34mm webers ..... So, I am not a strong vote for the single 34 carb rule

I would just like more VW's out at the track to run. I don't care what they do to there cars. The closer the cars run together the better. Its more fun to run side by side till the end. Just ask Rudy and I.

I think Steve and Bren are onto the right formula. Keep it simple and get more cars out there. Anybody that shows up will have so much fun they will just naturally come back.
Dustin makes a good point about heads up Vs. bracket. Bracket allows more versatility which should lead to more competitors.
My suggestion on rules is that we should only have one: "GoodVolks 1600 Challenge" for Air-cooled VW based cars running 16.00 ET and slower.
This would allow a lot of latitude in car preparation and yet get us somewhat close to each other. It would also allow most cars to compete without the expense of a helmet.
What do the rest of you think? Is this rule concept a good one? Is 16.00 a good number, or is it too fast to keep us together?

I like it Rudy. Simple is best and let's have fun! Maybe by the fall bug run we can come up with a class for this. Spring may be too early as we don't know how many people will really show.

I'm working on mine in my mind. Really want to get out there and do this. Need to get the bus done first. Might just run the blue '67 this year.
