are there any campsites right on the dunes where you could basically just get up and drive right out there?

Unfortunately there is no place to do that that I am aware of. If you have desert tracks you could drive over, if you are street legal.

getting it road legal is most likely going to be a winter project for me. thats why i was hoping for a campsite on the dunes. it does have desert explorers in back but i've got a set of smoothies on the way for the front so i don't really wanna be driving those on the street even if it was legal. maybe i'll just look for a better trailer this winter instead. lol

OK, with the help of some generous fellow club members who loaned me paddles and a flag, i will be coming to the dune day. And typical of me when i take my toys somewhere, my truck will be overloaded with tools, spares, equipment, and crap i may never ever need. Can I get all the stickers i need for the park on site?

Sounds like we are going to have a great turn out for this first annual Goodvolks Dune Day.
We will have the GoodVolks awning and banner set up in the main trailer-in parking lot. Let's make that our place to meet up and pick up riders. (For those without dune vehicles, I just called the park. Try to come into the main lot where people trailer in their cars. They said there should be no problem letting you park with us. If the lot is too full they will direct you to the pedestrian lot and you can walk back over to the trailer lot where we will hang out. The two lots are close by.)
Dunes open at 9am and close at 8pm. I plan to be there at 9am! Remember, there will be people joining us that don't have dune vehicles and will be looking for rides. If you are willing, please check in and offer rides so everyone can enjoy a trip out on the dunes or out to the lakeshore.
If anyone has any suggestions for anything for this day please post up. What do you think about doing a picnic lunch at 1pm so we can all meet up for an hour or so in the parking lot? I like the idea but at the same time I want to keep things simple. Probably simplest for everyone to do their own food.

We will be up there Thursday afternoon/evening. We're staying at the Dunes Waterfront Resort, the one right on Silver Lake, over by Craig's Cruisers, etc. Green two seater. PM if you want to exchange contact info.
