What's old is new again...I am reversing my "street rod" look and going back to a full fendered Beetle. Luckily, I saved the rear apron that I cut off a couple of years ago. Here is a pic of the first step in this process: As a result of this new project, my car will not be at Ypsi this weekend. I, on the other hand, will be there!

What made you decide to change it back? After all that work you did.

I got bored with the car....also, I was inspired by a car I saw in VolksWorld. I'm just funny that way!

I like the german look as well. I cant wait to see what the car looks like when done. I dont dislike the fenderless look but the fenders make a bug in my opine.

I'm going with blue, Dustin. This may sound corny, but it was the color my sister recommended when i first bought the car. She passed away about a year in to my original build--her son reminded me this blue was her favorite color. How could I do anything but that one, huh?

That doesn't sound corny at all Bill that sounds like exactly the right thing to do.

Bill:
I agree!
I like the fact that you're going back to fenders. Rods are cool, but I drive mine, and don't like getting hit by spray, rocks, and anything else that is on the road. Rods just seem to be limited to nice weekends to me.
Can't wait to watch the progress!

What kind of paint is it? What brand and where did you get it from?

You may laugh, bit it is Valspar Tractor & Implement Enamel--I bought it at Tractor Supply for about $12/qt (or $36/gal). They also sell a "Restoration Series" tractor paint for a bit more. I tried it, but had issues with it gumming up my gun (think it was drying too fast). I've used this paint every time I changed the color of this car. It shoots the same every time.
I mix 16 oz of paint with 4 oz of Naphtha thinner, then let 'er rip.

Do you do a clear coat over it? Been thinking about using tractor paint myself. Does it hold up well?
