The new color combo is going to look great. Get some more pics up ASAP.

Looks great!
You might want to try putting a small piece of electrical tape over the bright bolt heads in the wheel arches. I think it might look even more finished. Then again, it might not.
I really like like the paint scheme a lot better than the gray, but it did look a little "more of a piece" to me.

Thanks Dave--not a bad idea. Right now, I like the industrial look of the polished carriage bolts. That's not to say I won't change them before the season is over! Always looking for new ideas.

Looks great Bill. Nice you have the capability to make that significant of a change. I see something different behind the original rear bumper mounts. Can't make it out clearly. Looks like it will look more finished there compared to the before photo. The drop spindles make a huge difference. I like it alot.

Second look and I noticed the bolts replacing the trim. Compliments the bolts in the fender wells; I like it! I really like the front shorty bumpers. Wonder what it would look like with a matching set in the rear?

Thanks, Bren. When I made the front "bumperettes," I used an old ('67 and older) bumper. With the left over material, I created the vertical bumperettes to finish off the rear. I was looking at a similar set-up to the front, but my creative juices flowed in a different direction.
I kick myself for not installing those drop spindles sooner--clearly it makes a difference.

You guys are not going to believe this, but I am strongly considering putting the fenders back on and repainting this car "Transport Yellow" (kind of a yellow-orange color). The January 2010 VolksWorld magazine cover car is my inspiration--ever since I saw that car, I have been thinking about this change. Here is a link to my inspiration car: www.volksworld.com/imageBank/j/Jan2010-beetle.jpgIf you have followed this project thread, you might think I have VWADD (Volkswagen Attention Deficit Disorder). You would be right!

I like what you have. It is unique. I like the yellow one too. Do both! VW's like to have friends in the garage!!

It is a tough call, but I am not satisfied with the look of the front end on my car. It really needs an extender for the right fenderless stance, but I do not want to do that modification. Plus, those 235/70R-15s on the back are a lot of tire for the 1500 SP to turn. Talk about having an overdrive trans!
The beauty of the Beetle is that it is so adaptable to change. That's what drew me to it in the first place. I have all winter to think this one through.

I have two cars that are giving me some inspiration for my next look. One is from Ultra VW, the other from VolksWorld: I just happen to have colors very close to those two cars, so I painted some speed shapes to see how they might look in "real life." The blue is actuially Ford Blue (from the tractors), while the yellow is Transport Yellow (ie. school bus yellow). Here is your chance to influence the new look of my car--which do you like best? Keep in mind, full fendered, lowered front end, black wheels.:
