The heater tube was not really fun. It was needed for the trip to the U.P. in September. The front cross member was rotted and so was the heater tube. The heater tube was also a weird size and if I remember correctly 2-3/4" OD tube would fit over the existing pipe and 2-5/8" OD was the same size. The only tube I could find short notice from muffler shops was 2-1/2 OD or 3" OD. I really wanted to order my heat tube from Alro but I had no idea what I was going to do with 20' of it.
So that is why it looks all goofy with all the different adapters. The main goal was to get the tube sealed up and not look pretty.
If I could do it all over again I would just order the correct size 20' of tube from Alro I believe I was quoted something like $70 for the correct tube and I think I could of made about 4 heater tubes from the one tube. So it would be something like $17.50 per tube. So if I sold the extra tubes for $25 I could have made my money back. I am sure that shipping costs would have been expensive. In the end it was cheaper and faster just to pick up a 3" OD exhaust tube.
I can always replace the tube with a nicer one but this one works and I have heat. So if you never crawl under my bus or look at my underneath pictures you would never know.
Dan 4 years huh? As soon as I can find a house with a garage / pole barn the bus will be going under the knife to replace the few rusty panels. Then comes paint.
Hey my Bus is not that bad for a $300 yank out of a field bus.
