I have a small electric heater for the Ghia Garage just enough to remove the chill and warm the fingers. The problem is that there are 8 garage bays all with open joists. A large heater would just heat the large space above the walls. I am over my cold the weekend is mine!!!

I pulled all the old rubber out of my popouts, and started putting in the new seals. Needless to say I lost my cool and didn't get the new seals installed, hence the "started putting in the new seals". I guess I'll try again tomorrow. Does anyone know the trick to these things?

When my Dad and I did his we pulled on the seal stretching it and it popped in nicely also use some soapy water in the grooves and make sure the seals aren't cold.

Warm seals, warm glass and warm water works wonders. Keep the COOL for the temper. Like Bren found out the little cotter key pulling tool can also be big help when installing seals(looks like a screwdriver with a hook at the end)/ Later Kenn

I used mineral oil on mine. Not sure if it is the best to use or not but I liked it. I hoped being natural it won't dry out the rubber like wd40 can. Wiped it on the seal and the metal. Then I put one side in and used the tool Kenn mentioned to work in the other side. Sounds like the stretching thing might work better though. Make certian that all of the old rubber is out of the groove and that the groove is clean. If you can't get it let me know. Maybe we can get together sometime and finish it up. I did two sets this summer, one for me and one with the help of John W for his car.

AJ, the heater I mentioned might actually work well for you. It is a radiant type heater and heats objects more than the air. Does not use electricity or a fan. You could also staple a sheet of plastic to the rafters to create a bit of a ceiling. You are welcome to try it out if you want.

Thank you Bren a radiant heater might be better than my electric heater. Half of my garage has a plastic sheet but none under where the door folds up. It was installed by the cave dweller before me. Saturday I plan on locking myself in my garage with the electric heater and see how that goes. If I freeze or get overwhelmed I may need to barrow you heater.
I remember back in the day in my early 20s I did tons of stuff in the garage without heat. I remember coming in after hours of wrenching and taking cold showers that would burn my skin. I guess I have become lazy and spoiled as I get older.

I've got some vic grease that we use on the rubber of a coupling that we use at work. Its really slippery and won't break down the rubber. Thanks for the idea, Bren if I can't figure it out I may take you up on your offer.

Did you get the seals on Jerry?
Today I dediced I needed to turn my car around in the garage. So, I drove out onto the drive and promptly got it stuck. But, I did not give up and got it back in the garage. I was amazed at how well it ran. Started right up and ran great.

No not yet, I'll try again soon though. Today I went out to the garage and started my car up, it ran alright, I was going to run it around the block but there was a wall of snow in front of the door so it stayed in the garage. I pulled the seats, carpet and shifter out, bent the other shifter and test fit it. I cleaned it up and will put everything back in when I get a chance.

I put sound dampner in the doors and on the heaterchannels and floor pans yesterday. Used up the balance of the can of the brush on stuff. The torpedo heater that normally cooks me out of the garage barely kept it at 60 yesterday.

Started the bug today, moved her outside to breath the fresh air and get some sun. Let her bask in it for 20 min or so idling, then tucked her in for another month. She started and ran great. Please spring come soon : (
