Hahahahahaha. A 42" lcd, with surround sound would be funny. Patina outside and luxury on the inside.

Yep thats the idea but a 42" is a bit over kill I want a 12 volt LCD HD wide-screen 15" or 17" mounted behind the passenger seat with a entertainment center below to replace the sink and cooler combo.
Today was a day of failures. I split the engine case to find all rod, main, and cam bearings shot. Who would build a engine with new pistons but reuse all the old bearing?
I wanted to replace the exhaust studs in the heads. With heat I snapped two studs and gave up.
I wanted to remove the gas tank. So I removed all the screws the hold down the cover. Someone glued the cover in place after tons of prying I gave up.
I wanted to check the brakes. After removing the large center nut on the rear. I smashed the living snot out of the drum. Spending a half-an-hour of hammer swinging I moved it 1/2" I gave up and put it back together.

Just joking about the tv size.
Soak that axle/drum with pb blaster, and back off the adjusters. Some times the drum wears and the shoes hang up on the lip created when they wear.
Good luck, this is what makes us appreciate it all when we actualy get to drive them.

I have been busy rebuilding the motor and I finally have the long block completed. Anyone know the Michigan laws regarding a cracked Windshield? I am debating if I want to run the Bus with the crack. The crack is not in my viewing area but what does everyone think? I think it adds character. I also finally removed the fuel tank cover thanks to my wife. By purchasing the Bentley manual for my birthday. I was able to find the last 4 hidden screws. Once again I am amazed about how well my parts bus is. I have never seen a fuel tank in this good of condition.

Good work AJ,
I would look for another windshield but probably drive it as is if I cant find one. I am not sure about the law myself but those look like some pretty nasty cracks.

Sorry for the confusion it is a 1970 manufactured in 8-69 with a very low vin number. When I purchased it the Original Owner said it was a 1969 the vin number says its a 1970. Volkswagen changes model year in August so its a 1970. I just started this posting before I found out its a 1970 but it was made in August 1969 so in my mind it still matches my Ghia that is manufactured in July 1969. I hope that clears up the confusion. Sorry Also Check this about my M-Code thegoodvolks.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=563

It just sits in the garage all sad. I don't think it like to be used as temporary storage space.
I have focused all efforts on the Ghia for now but between Collage, work, funding, and weather. I can't really blame the weather now.
Things are just on hold now until I get parts to finish the Ghia engine. I am needing main bearing (again) stainless steel pushrod tubes and stainless steel exhaust tips.
It just sucks because I should be driving the Ghia now but no I had to drop a nut down the block.
I am thinking really hard about installing the Bus engine in the Ghia so I have a driver.
After the Ghia is on the road I will be back on the Bus just give me time.

I was finally able to drive my Bus on Saturday. Super cool Luckily Glen, Kenn, and Steven were there to push and the engine sounds were supplied my me. Just steering the Bus out of the garage while being pushed made me realize that its different driving a vehicle when sitting on the front wheels. Thanks to everyone help we installed a red sliding door to replace my rusty nasty green one. Also with some persuasion with a large screw driver I fixed my driver side door from hitting when being opened. I removed the ripped and dried out tent material and I am thinking I will leave it that way for the air condition effect it allows now.

Here is my Bus update after the weekend. I checked and measured the crankshaft end play. I borrowed a 300 ft-lbs torque wrench from work and torqued my gland nut to spec. I even installed the flywheel and clutch.

Actually I can't wait to drive it. The truth is that I kind of want to drive it more than my Ghia right now.
But why dansam are you excited to see the rusty Bus? Its not fancy or restored. The nicest looking feature on it will be the clean rebuilt engine in a dirty rusty engine bay.
