Well, I had planned to drag the thing up to my pole barn and use a chain fall to tip it up on its' side. I used a come-along to pull it up on a sheet of plywood I strapped to my boat trailer. With my wife helping by placing some wood blocks, I picked this thing up and rolled it up on its' side by myself. I sandblasted just enough to weld up the floor pans from the bottom side. I am having some successes, but I still hate bodywork! Thanks to all who volunteered to help me, but I try real hard not to involve good people in my hare-brained schemes. The only thing that would have made this goat rope more comical would have been a package from the Acme Manufacturing Co. delivered by Wile E. Coyote! Attachments:

Welcome to my garage/machine shop/body shop. The two hoops on the roll cage were bent by the crew at Jamieson Fab. I used 1.25 inch DOM,.120 thickness. I had to go with that diameter due to the fact that the tubing goes into square tubing sockets in each corner of the bed. The front hoop is 18" deep in its socket, and stops on the flange that bolts the bed to the rear body mounts on the shock tower. The rear hoop is 15" deep into its socket. I am going to run two tubes from the rear hoop down to my engine cage, and mount my oil cooler on them. The windshield was designed to fold down, and I am debating if I should run tubes to the windshield or not. Why would I ever want to drive around with the windshield folded down? Attachments:

Wow! What a difference. Nice work Haven't ridden in vehicles with the windshield down, but maybe keep the option just because its there and might add to the value. On the other hand... you only go around once; make it your own. Flip the two-headed coin Looks great - Thanks for the update

If you can keep bugs (the creepy, non VW ones), sand. sticks and such out of your mouth, hair and eyes, it's quite fun! ;D.

Well, I had to put the engine in so I could finish my roll cage. The two bars going from the rear hoop down to the bumper are mostly to stabilize the frame horns. "But Paul, how are you going to remove the engine with the bumper welded to the roll cage?" Well, stay tuned sports fans. Attachments:

Well, since you asked so nicely, I made disconnects for the two tubes coming off the rear hoop. I turned them from solid round stock, and welded them in place. Once the paint is on, they should almost disappear. Note to self -green canvas tarps are not OSHA approved welding blankets. Attachments:
