Thanks guys @ Steven: yep, sure did...while my brother pulled the bug from out back with his jeep. Then I slammed on my brakes to see if they still worked...hehe...yep @ Brian - yeah I have the rear decklid, just isn't on there yet.

Got the bug a little closer to being done today: new plugs installed, new wires, cap & rotor installed, heater hoses (from heat exchangers to heat channels) installed, and new alternator belt installed. Got the wiring just about buttoned up, tossed the battery in and turned the key....click....click..... Knew I forgot SOMETHING....my starter is really REALLY nasty looking. KNEW i forgot to get another. Will be trying to clean up the connections on it tomorrow, along with every other ground wire I can find. Hope it's good enough to at least start it so I know she'll run

welp, need a starter (Patrick said he has one) and the timing checked. All connections in the starting system are cleaned up, and besides having to tap the starter with a hammer to engage it, she wants to backfire out the exhaust. At least I know I have spark and what my starting problem now is

Congratulations Bill! I know the feeling. ;D Will you be driving to the Bug Run? What's the issue with the carb? Are the throttle bushings worn?

leaky fuel pump (around the crimped seam) and yes, the throttle bushings are a tad worn and one is dripping a bit.

the "few things to do yet" list: -------------------------------------- 1. Double check timing 2. Re-check front wheel bearings (bearings seals sound like they are rubbing?") 3. Replace steering bearing under steering wheel (and re-center wheel lmao) 4. Adjust rear brakes again (pedal still a tad "squishy") 5. Figure out this darn engine lid alignment and that blasted spring
