Sorry I didn't make the drag days last weekend. I was all set to come down but honestly the weather forecast scared me off. The idea of standing around in a drizzle all day.... guess I'm getting grouchier as I age!
Anyway, this weekend is the first Furrin Group Autocross of the season. It is Saturday and Sunday at West Michigan Auto Auction (south of Grand Rapids on 131). I'll have the Porsche this weekend but will actually be driving the Beetle most of the rest of the season. Hope to see a few more beetles out there this season!

Grrrrrrrrrr Ally wont be done.... Ally is missing out on more fun this year!! Well I need to look at it as a building block toward future fun. I did get a set of 185/65r15 bfg advantage tires for the front.

Late notice as usual, but tomorrow, Sunday July 1st. is an autocross at the drag-strip in Martin. We use the access roads. I'll be there in the Beetle this time, and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. The event pre-registration is completely filled up, but if anyone wants to show up just to see what it's all about I expect you'll have fun. If you sign the waver I would also be happy to have a ride-along or two if you happen to show up at the right time. It would be fun to see a few VW crowd show up to spectate. Best guess is that the racing itself run almost continuously between 11:00 and 4:00, with a good likelihood for fun-runs (no timing) after. I'll be up against two corvairs and a toyota thingymajigger. I'm pretty sure I've raced both the corvairs before and that both are track-setup. I've bested them before on very tight tracks, but this event tends to be pretty open. I'll be at a tremendous power disadvantage so wish me luck!
PS. Rudy, where have you been this season???

PS. Rudy, where have you been this season??? The autox schedule and mine just are not in sync this year. I'm hoping to run at GVSU, but that will probably be the only autox for this season

Great stance! And I like the safety equippment!
Any other runs for the bugs this year?
I have a Kafer bar on the way (good news), I fear I should not do any more racing till I replace the front ball joints which wont happen for a bit (bad news).

Thanks Dan! Probably no more autox for my Bugs this year I hear you on the ball joints. Its always best to have them connecting stuff in the suspension......................... It will be interesting to see how much the kafer bar helps. Bet it is a bunch.

I participated in my first autocross event which was in Muskegon and hosted by the Furrin Group. Even though I wasn't very competitive with my times, I did manage to have a LOT of fun! Here is my 4th or 5th run through the cones: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O20jRGE8sIIThere is an event in Martin July 21st - I'm signed up and quite excited for another event. Here is the link to the preregistration site - would be great to meet some fellow vintage VW enthusiasts out there! www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=14033

Took the 70 out to the Furrin Group Autox at GVSU last weekend. Had a great time. There were 5 of us in the Vintage class, 2 drivers in a really nice TR6, a sweet Mustang convertible (1973, I think), and GoodVolks members thatmacguy and I. David left his Bug at home and was running his very nicely restored 912E. He and I were the fastest, but white Porsches were faster than Black Beetles on this day. The course was great with some twisty stuff, some sweepers, and a 3rd gear straight. Big Fun! Here's a pic of the 70 in autocross trim:

Had a great time at the Furrin group event at the drag strip today. I had my Porsche there, but 64SunroofVW showed up with his beetle and reall made me wish I had brought the beetle instead. Definitely the highest-speed and must fun track I've yet driven. 1 mile long with a lot of high-speed segments and plenty of twisty bits too.. We had a fairly large vintage group (6 drivers).
I really do think that many of you would have a great time at autocross events, it's the type of thing where even stock beetles can shine since power really isn't the key component like it is in most forms of Motorsports.
The event Rudy and I were both at GVSU was also a lot of fun but a much tighter and slower track overall. Rudy's beetle looks and runs great.
