Marie and I went with John and met Dustin and Matt at US131. We were Rudy's fan club. Unfortunately the event got rained out before we got to see Rudy run. Here are the few videos I shot today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=00u4UaxTcx0Hey, thanks for the videos. I couldn't make that event, so it is great to see these. BTW, for those who don't know, Autocross is definitely NOT a spectator sport. It is dead-boring to watch, except when you get those few lunatics out there who are truly just there to have fun and don't care if they are going fast. However, it is an absolutely blast to do, or to ride. If anyone comes out to see what it is all about this weekend at GVSU you will almost certainly find people willing to let you ride along once or twice.

Cori and I had a great time today! I am going to have to use a brick to knock the smile off my face! Thanks Rudy and Dave for the tech support! ;D Blu waiting to give me a ride! ;D This was my first run, a little slow, but, if you watch the entire video, you will see Baron Von Kafermann giving the whiteish whip a good flogging. Click on the pic for a cool video! Be patient the fun starts about 18 secs. in, 1:15 is a good point too! Another vid, click to ride along! Be patient... Last video, different angle.

Patrick made us GoodVolks all proud by winning his class. He and David battled it out for the win in the Vintage class. Very impressive driving from both.

They did make them in 76', they should have made them for a lot longer but they didn't.

This was a great event! Patrick drove very, very well and the car looks absolutely fantastic out there. It handled flat and looked super-responsive. It was also a rocket off the line. His final laps were both faster than any of mine. We ran "rally-cross" scoring this time, which I really liked (took the best 3 times out of 5 laps).
I've got a few pics and some video. I didn't record Pat's laps, but I've got a small amount of incidental footage I'll post here from a different angle.
Yeah, they revived the 912 for one year in 1976 as the 912E. Basically a 911 with downgraded interior and an 86hp Type IV VW engine and a 914 transmission. No rear-sway bar on mine (it was an option on this car, not standard like on the 911). I ordered the rear bar for it today. The rear is pretty flubbery without one (but still a great handling car, just lots of body-roll).
I'm finally back to working on my Beetle and hope to bring the Porsche out Saturday at the MSU event and the Beetle out on Sunday.

That SA trans will be fine, you only need two gears, and one of them is just to get off the line! ;D Some KYB's on the back, maybe a pair of limit straps, along with the camber compensator, that thing would stay nice and flat! There was a good mix of cars, it was interesting to see how they compared to each other. The black Malibu cracked me up, and cornered amazingly flat! I was impressed! I do have a LOT of suspension mods (and engine mods, and brake mods..) compared to the others that would normally run in the vintage class. I went with the vintage class the first time out just to see if I still liked it, I had only autocrossed once before, and that was in '96! I'll probably go to a different class if/when I start getting more serious. We were told we could have our own class if we got enough vintage VW's out there... Thanks Dave, that's a much better ride along video! I enjoyed watching you run, at least, as much as I could see while I was finishing my runs. I can't wait to see what kind of improvement that rear sway bar will make! Should be cool!
