The Furrin Group has events on the 14th and the 15th. I'm running their event on the 14th and then running on the dragstrip on the 15th. I plan on checking out the autox at the Bug Run to help in deciding between it and the drags at the fall Bug Run.

Ally and I are going to the season opener this Sunday in Bell Isle Detroit. Auto x with the Detroit scca club. I'm stoked! It's rain or shine as there is a 50% chance of rain. As long as they still run it I don't care Its been too long since I've done it.

Congratulations! Looks like a great time. There is something extra special about doing well when you're driving a beetle, isn't there?

It was fun. But overall I was not pulling the times to compete with the front drivers. My best time was a 50.2, the average for the event was a 46.0 and the bad ass rx7 turned like a 39.0 still for the skinny tire brigade....... I got lotsa power, handling and drivers skill could be improved upon ! Still I kinda like the car the way it is, Id hate to have a buckboard ride. Oh and everyone loved my exhaust cutout !! I think my car got the most props for showing up. Those Detroit guys were very inviting and easy to get along with.

The Furrin Group Autox at US131 yesterday featured an outstanding course with hi speed (3rd gear) on most sections with constant driver input required. It was BIG fun! Thatmacguy and I were there to represent the GoodVolks.
David drove his 912E like a man possessed and won the Vintage class, 2nd was a very well driven and well prepared Austin Mini and the 68 was 3rd. I was very happy with the 68's performance especially considering its $30 Craigslist tires. I was also very impressed with David's performance! It was definitely a good day.
The next Furrin Group autox is at Grand Valley on July 2 & 3. Hope we can have a few more GoodVolks competing there. This is such a blast, I hate to see the rest of you missing out on it.

Today the Furrin group held a foreshortened autocross at the Metro Cruise event in GR. I was there with my '68 Beetle (first autocross of the season for the Beetle! Darn that 912E!). The car ran and handled great.
Fox 17??? Was there and there is some chance you might catch a glimpse of me running the Beetle tonight at 10:00pm. I was racing at the time, but I don't know which cars they filmed.
(I managed to eek out a 1st place in Vintage again, this time against an MG and a Triumph. We really should get some more Beetles out at these events. They are competitive in Vintage class and it's just so much fun...)

Good job! Are you going to run the Bug at Muskegon?
There is a lot of satisfaction in operating a Bug as a sportscar.

There is a lot of satisfaction in operating a Bug as a sportscar. Yes there is! I have to say, no matter how much I enjoy driving the Porsche, there is a greater sense of accomplishment when I drive the Beetle well. I plan of having the Beetle up at Muskegon, and the Porsche too! It's so close to home it looks like Curt will let me run off and switch cars and run a 2-car day. It would be great to get some more Beetles out there! See www.furrin.org/ and look for the calendar. I think it's September 17th in Muskegon. (Note, this is one of our smallest and shortest tracks. But that means you usually get more laps. Also, tighter tracks favor smaller cars like Beetles. The venue usually has hot-dogs etc. available for the drivers, which is also nice.)

Hey guys. The last "official" Furrin group autocross is this weekend in Muskegon. Check out www.furrin.org/ if you want to give it a shot. Lots of fun. Hopefully I'll have the Beetle there, and the Porsche too!

It was a great race day with a large vintage class but only 2 beetles, me and Rudy. Rudy's "white" '68 looks amazing out there with his suspension tweaks and he drove great and came in 2nd, beaten only by a gnats whisker by a completely race-setup vintage Mini! I came in 3rd behind Rudy. Hope to see a few more Beetles out there next season!
