Hey, I figured I'd post an update on the Fasty project that I and two of my friends are modifing for our senior project at Lawerance Tech U. The project is to put air ride on the car with the possibility of an air powered jack as well. The car now runs and moves under its own power. I'll put up some current pics once I get the chance. We just put a stinger tip on the type 3. We hope to be going to Chile Fest 2008 in it as well.

The type 3, Zeke, decided that he didn't want to run. Instead it leaked out all of the oil in the crankcase (think in terms of minutes), so we might have killed another motor. Went to Chile Fest in the New Beetle.

What all are you doing to air ride it? I assume cut and turn narrowed beam with some sort of air shock?

Up front a sligtly narrowed beam with no torsion bars inside. It depends on how drivable we want it to be as to how narrow the beam is, which boils down to how close to the ground the car can go. Out back a similar set up to stock, but in outside looks. The project is to improve the ride and driving characteristics of the vehicle, so stance while important, is not as important as drivability.

I figured I'd give an update on the Fasty. The project going good in some ways and bad in others. The Good: We have made our first Projects 1 presentation, which went well, even though we were over the 20 minute time limit. Most of the CAD of the orginal suspension is completed as well as the design for the air powered car jack. The test track set-ups are for the most part complete. Also the air-ride installation set-up is being finalized. The Bad: The motor has developed an oil leak, after further inspection it was discovered that the seals between the block and the cylinders are leaking badly. Think in terms of quarts of oil. The car has also developed a random lighting issue, some days the tail lights don't work, some days its the blinkers, and others it a combination of the two. During Christmas break we plan to do some major work to the car.

Thanks for the update Kirby. Are you sure its leaking from the cylinders or from the push rod tube seals? There isn't a seal between the cylinders and the case. If its push tube seals they can be changed relatively easily over a weekend or long night.

We haven't have time to really figure out exactly where the oil is coming from yet. I think I miscommunicated it, meant to say its coming from that area. Thanks for the thought, we'll make sure to check that, before doing anything major.

I live about 9 miles from campus, you guys can bring it to my place and work on it in my garage if you want. Don's is also a few miles away for parts too.
But yeah, sounds like pushrod tubes.
