Just bought a 1969 VW Bay Window Westfalia campervan. Bought it from Bill Chapple of Marshall. Thanks to AJ, Steve, and Steven for going with me to evaluate the purchase. With John's help it is now safely home in my garage. Concept: Thinking of this color combination. [ Photos of the bus home on the trailer: On it's way into the garage for the first time:

:)That is nice. Congratulations on your new purchase. Pretty soon you will need to build a pole barn next to your house. You will have one of everything VW made. John in Plainwell

Count your self lucky you were able to drive yours the day you brought it home. It took me months before I could drive mine.
Just wait until you can drive it on the street. I get more looks and smiles in my Bus than I do in my Ghia.

Awesome! Maybe this is why Steve was out in the garage working on my bus right away this morning--peer pressure!

Very cool. Nice of the P.O. to strip it all down for you. DO you have all the bits?

I do need more space, that is for sure. The fun will indeed begin soon. Anxious to get started on it. Funny thing, with the beetle John drove it on and off the trailer when we brought it home. He just did the same with the bus. Steven did the welding on the car and soon the same with the bus. It was cool to be able to drive it. Much easier getting it on and off the trailer and into the garage. Single port motor in the bus probably won't stay there long though. Peer pressure, that is funny. Seeing another project is always motivating. Just makes you want to be working on your own. It sure is great being part of this club. When I owned my first two beetles I knew no one into VW's. Had little to no help beyond the internet. It is great to have the help of others who have recently gone down this path. Yes, I have all the bits and then some. PO started working on the bus, he was very close to taking it in for body work and paint. He purchased many new rubber pieces including proper tires. All included with the sale. I am sure I will have some stuff to buy (like the pop top canvas) but the original purchase is a very good start.

Pulled the windshield. Apparently bay window bus's have a habit of rusting around the windshield. Looks like I might have gotten off easy on mine.

Bren that is what my Green bus windshield lip looked like. I am so afraid of the one on my current black Bus. Do you plan on just fixing it with what you have or buying this? That is what I will be getting so I don't have to do this.

Bren: Looks VERY cool! Are those new tires as well? They look like about the same size as the front tires on the Pig of Plastic. I' don't think, however, that I should step on the running board. Probably would break something. Dave

It was nice of the P.O. to give you that nice rusty carrying case for all those nice parts at no extra charge!! just kidding I like it very much and could see myself with something like that one day.

I am hoping to just patch around the windshield. Will know more after I sand blast or wire wheel the area.
