Well Ally is now running fine. No leaks (knock on wood desk!) and no worse for the abuse Ive put her through. The new OE oil pressure springs change things a bit. Before it was hard to ever get the engine under 40psi and it would go to 80 in a heartbeat. Now seems to idle around 20 and goes up to 40 and kinda stays there (not sure I like that yet) oil temp seems pretty normal. THe new breather will need to be reinstalled as it is not as secure as Id like. Also still need to bleed the brakes and install rear wheels and then Im done!! NEXT prject>.......... Cant wait to drive the wee out of her next summer and not leave big puddles everywhere. And wont get all excited when 15W40 goes on sale

Yea I think all is well with Ally. I bleed the brakes and adjusted the clutch and put the wheels back on, reinstalled the camber compensator (major proctastination on that one) and Im ready to roll. Didnt redue the oil filler/breather but it is not really that bad and I speant the whole day cleaning out the garage so that Ally can get out of the fixit "bay" and sittin pretty next to Regina's "new beetle" new being the operative word for a car with 179000 on it . Any way Ill move it tommorow as Im tired. I like Ally too. Now that is not to say it is my dream beetle (cloth sunroof is really all that is missing though). I will say that performance wise it is really were I wanted to be. Cant wait to play with the new clutch set up and see if it is as bad as everyone tells me it will be. Ill just be happy for no slippage on full accel. Night night. Dan

Dan:
Congratulations! Can't wait to see Ally tearing up the highways and byways, and not mark her spot...
Sounds like you have got it!

I like the looks of it a lot better the way it is now. Also the steering wheel helps with the good looks.

Yes the steering wheel is very nice and I like the look of the aluminum panel better than the black one.

Well it was such a nice day out today I figured it was a great time to raise Ally from her slumber for a checkover and general warm up. As always I let her crank with no fuel till I saw some oil pressure then I hit the fuel pump and before you know it she was sputtering then awake! I dont know why this motor always sounds so ticky on cold start. Im going to relash the valves before the season starts and may tighten em a bit (is at loose 0 lash right now) or maybe Ill leave it alone as when warmed up she sounds fine. All my gages with the exception of the fuel ratio gage were working fine. Ill get the new exhaust with the o2 bung in it later and then will wire that up. Took out my licence plate lamp that has been shorting out my brake lights and Ill rewire that later. over all started and ran fine for 30 min then back under the sheet and back to sleep till march ((sniff sniff)) Im always tempted to take her out for a spin but I know better by now to let sleeping bugs be.
