This just in from the President of the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Club: We have decided to move our event to Sunday, May 17th in order to not "overload" the last weekend in May with too many VW events in Michigan. This change will require a change in venue and the 2009 Festival will be on the grounds of Karmann USA in Plymouth. I'll see that a notice of the Bug-Run appears in our next newsletter and I hope you can spread the word that the Vintage Festival will be on May 17th from 9AM to 3 PM. As usual, we will have a kick-off party the night before and try to arrange some sort of hotel deal for people from farther away. As things develop, they will be posted on our website: www.mvvc.net. Thanks for your patience! Cheers! John Deikis President Michigan Vintage V W Club

I believe it is, Mike. Wow, Plymouth is just a stone's throw for me, so I better get ready for this one!

The Michigan Vintage VW Festival is steamin' ahead for the date of Sunday May 17th at the the Karmann USA facility off of Five Mile Rd, near Beck Rd. north of Plymouth. There's more info under "events: at the club website: www.mvvc.netPlanning has been going well, despite the late start and the change in date. A festival planning meeting is scheduled for this Friday at 7 PM at the Box Bar in Plymouth. We have club members who have taken on responsibilities for registeration, swap meet, sponsors, t-shirts, and the Saturday night kick-off party. I hope to keep adding information to the Festival web page. Pre-registration is already on there. Rather than a Saturday banquet the night before the show, we will be having a kick-off party at the the Box Bar & Grille, right on the town green in Plymouth. Come when you want, order what you want. About a hundred beers on tap. We'll have some music and whatever else we can think of that will make it a great event. We are also about to tie the knot with a a "host hotel" for people who want to make a weekend out of it. It'll be cheaper than the Ypsi accommodations and we'll throw in a continental breakfast on Sunday so you're not stuck with mid-morning kielbasa or Italian sausage from the roach coach. See ya there! -JohnD

A few years ago, when I was in charge of the "feature cars" at the Vintage Festival (the year we got flooded out of the park in Ypsi and took to the streets!), I managed to personally call and invite a bunch of VW racers from various corners of the racing world-- drag cars, sand rails, roadrace cars, Formula Vees. It was as much fun as the year the Gene Berg Memorial Cruise came to town.
With all the other tasks I inherited this year, I haven't had a chance to do all of that again. If you know somebody who likes to show their car-- especially if they like to strut their stuff in front of the "stock and original" old farts, tell them I want to personally invite them to bring their machines to the 2009 fest in Plymouth.
People LOVED the dragsters doing the demo burnouts-- and some of those street machines left a lot of blu smoke too.
Come, act out! Make your parents ashamed of you! ;D

I always loved this show down by the river but think it will be really cool to tour the Karmann operation and resto shop. Anyone else planning on making this show?

I'm glad they moved the date back to May. It was hotter than blazes last year. We met when I was checking in didn't we? When my bus tried to drive away without me!! I hit my starter jumper with the bus in gear and it started!!! Steve

Anyone want to meet in Battle Creek to drive in together? How about we meet at the Beckley/Capital Burger King (I-94 exit 97) at 7am? Mapquest shows it is a 1.5 hour drive. Show starts at 9am.
