On the bus, when I drove to bug run the brakes pulled to the left pretty hard.
The front adjusters were frozen. I have since replaced them and adjusted the front brakes.
Right rear hose was bad and I replaced it. After this I was able to bleed all 4 brakes. Front left seemed to have a tiny bit of air that did not seem to go away.
I was able to adjust the rear brakes.
So, with the brakes still pulling to the left what should I be looking for?

Are you sure the front hoses are good? I had bad hoses on my beetle that would not let fluid return when the brake pedal was released. If one of your hoses was bad, the others are usually the same age,and in the same condition.

Yes. Should have done them all.
Wondering if I got pb blaster on the shoes? Right rear adjusters moved hard. I used pb blaster to free them. Maybe those shoes glazed.

I think Paul has the answer. I'd replace all the hoses.

un-balanced rear brakes don't make the steering pull as much as front brakes.
Once, I had a leaky wheel cylinder which made the pads sticky. The brakes actually worked better on the wheel with the leaky cylinder. Check you left front shoes and cylinder.

Ed,the unbalanced rear is not an issue. My (wag, bet, hunch, guess) is that the left front hose has broken down internally, and will only let some of the fluid return when the brakes are released, causing a drag.

If you replace hoses, go with SS braided, I really like them on DC, also have them on 'Burban.

I managed to get front hoses. Put them on and bled them. Hoses were bad. Unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. Still pulling hard to the left.

Finally got back to it. Pulled the wheels and drums last night. Went out to test them tonight to see if all 4 are moving properly. Found the right shoes to be wet. Discovered the top wheel cylinder leaking. So, looks like I found the main problem; besides the loose nut behind the wheel!
So, being a cheap VW person.... Can those shoes be cleaned and used? Or, are they scrap now? Hate to scrap them, they still have lots of life in them.
