Well, I can tell you that brake fluid will eventually ruin your shoes. Maybe you caught it early, but I think I would replace them.

In the past I hv cleaned them with brake cleaner or acetone and then let them dry. If they still looked GREASY I canned them. But I haven't done it on something as NICE as your van.

Bren:
I have heard that folks can do it, but I have never seen anyone be able to do it.
In theory, I have heard of folks using dawn soap several times to clean the general fluid off. Once done, spray everything off with brake cleaner, wipe clean, spray again, wipe again, and put in a 250 degree oven for several hours. After several hours, take it out, clean it with dawn a couple of times, and do the brake cleaner and oven thing again, and this may do it. It is important to only heat it to 250 degrees to allow the crud and corruption to migrate out. 300 degrees causes things to crystalize, which is a bad thing...
The reason you have to do this is that brake pads are porous, and brake fluid soaks in. Once in, it is almost impossible to clean out. They may work as a brake, but they are almost never right.

I just hate to throw something away that has so much life left.... But, there was a brand new set of shoes in all the parts that came with the bus, so I will use those. Better safe than sorry. Besides, I don't think Marie wants brake shoes in the oven.

Two new wheel cylinders and new shoes installed. Took it for a test drive today. No more pulling! I am so relieved!
Thanks for all the help and advice all.
