Aha, that makes sense. I was wondering where it was getting cool air from. There is a good chance I will make it to that show mike. I will probably it a two day deal and stay at the family cottage just outside Ann Arbor / Dexter for a night. Makes two hours less driving I have to do the Morning of the show. This summer/fall I hope to make it to more vw events since I should have more time.

Bren, did you put the motor from the bus into the '67 Beetle? No, saving that motor for a '69 Ghia I bought. Just waiting for the attorney representing the estate to come through with the title. The bug is getting a 1641 that Greg built. 100 cam, 125 rockers, tri-mil exhaust and some weber 34's I got a long time ago in a trade with George. Going to be cool to finally use those carbs....

Dirk,Can we all say,,, 'Happy Graduation'?? Yup! After five years I finally made it. I moved back to west Michigan last week Sunday. Feels great to be done, but I don't think it will really sink in until September when I realize I'm not going back up north. Lol. Just started looking for mechanical or manufacturing engineering positions around the area. Hopefully something turns up soon.

I ground off about a 3/8 of an inch of thickness on the rear torsion stops, and re-indexed the torsion bars on the Sportster. I got almost 3 inches of "free" ground clearance.

Good for U Dirk,Congratulations,,,bet ur gonna miss that weather up here I believe he's running GRB's on a swingaxle , like it needs more ground clearance ,a cat can walk under it without hitting it's tail now

When you run RGB's with adapters to type 1 torsion, you lose some ground clearance because the axle mounts above the springplate. I had zero camber before I changed the stops. I have just a hint of camber now. I found the instructions for the adapters my Dad bought in 1968 for his tub buggy, back before anyone was building buggies with cv's.

Biggest reason I went looking for lift was to get some fender clearance to stop my 33" street tires from hitting the fenders.

Changed the shift rod bushing on the Sport Bug today. The old bushing was laying in pieces in the bottom of the tunnel.
Sure would be easier if that hole in the tunnel was bigger. At least it doesn't rattle anymore - feels less sloppy too.

Worked in a number of odd things over the past week.
1st: stripped down the distributor to clean it up and get it working smooth again. Bushings were still good, but the fiber washers were shot. Still waiting on new fiber washers to arrive. Got the breaker/vacuum plates disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled. Also took apart the centrifugal advance mechanism, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled. Feels much better to the touch than it did before. Once the new fiber washers come in, it will be ready to rock.
2nd: I modified the breather chimney. The Porsche 914 oil filler funnel and cap were too wide and the breather hose connection is up high so all the oil that falls out of the air drains down into the air cleaner. I removed the 914 filler and replaced it with a filler from a 411/412 and drilled the breather chimney for a thread in breather hose fitting in the stock dual carb location.
