Yeah, I here a lot of complaints about brakes run in the stock configuration on buggies and baja's. A friend of mine had the same problem...fronts locked up before the backs. He swapped the cylinders front to back and that was the end of that problem. That was on his fathers buggy. He needed 4 wheel brakes to get it titled, and disks were way over kill for that light of a machine.
How did you guys get away with inspections while having only rear brakes?

Hahaha, I like your sense of humor So basically cheating the system hu?...Show up for the inspection with 4 wheel brakes, then remove them afterwards? Something about that just doesn't seem right...

I didn't have a problem, don't ask/don't tell!! If you know a cop it helps also.

Lets say someone with a titled buggy gets into an accident and they have to involve the insurance agency that covers the vehicle. If they find out that the vehicle did not have working four wheel brakes, can you get "in big trouble" for that?

Are you sure 4 wheel brakes are a requirement? During my inspection I don't recall it being discussed.

Put it this way, it is not a requirement for the TR-54 on road tech inspection form. However, I do believe I read it on another one of the michigan.gov pages...I will have to try to dig it up again.

Well I'll be...don'tcha know, all I can find now is that michigan requires that the car be able to stop within 30' from a speed of 20mph, and have "two means of applying brakes to at least two wheels."

Just add a Steering brake and ur done ;D Ya know, it's funny you say that. Back when I was conceptualizing this whole rig, a steering brake was in the works. I have since kinda dropped the idea in favor of a simpler system with less things to go wrong. I know lots of people do it, but I would rather not splice in extra hydraulic stuff unless it is really necessary. The only time I would see myself needing a little assistance from a cutting brake would be on the steep rocky mining roads up north...kinda the poor mans locking differential. What is your honest opinion on cutting brakes? I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about weather they are worth it or not.

Add disc brake with the cutting brake, and do 90* turns without moving the steering wheel. Which will help with sandy 2 tracks, leaves, or the dunes. Your building this system right, not something you have to splice into just add another line is all. Back before advent of cutting brakes the red neck crew used two oh!Sh!t brake handles(one on either side of the tunnel) with single cables to each rear wheel for the same effect. Like changing direction on snow covered roads or ice on the lake(yeah I used to drive on frozen water). For the giggle effect.
