There's a bug sitting in a big bush just down the street for me. I haven't stopped in to ask the guy about it. I've watched the weeds grow up around.
Maybe I'll swing by there next week and see if he is a greedy bug owner too.

I used to park my Bug in the driveway when it had faded paint. I drove it mostly only on weekends so it may have given the impression of being a neglected car to weekly passers by. Its amazing how many people stop to ask if I would take $300 for "that old bug in the driveway."
My answer was usually, "I'll take $3000 for it."

I think I've seen the '67 Jerry's talking about but never stopped. This X2 thing may become a trend. Do you have to do it with 67's to qualify? Do I have to round out my singles? 72(111+113) We were doing the 67 only club but the X2 Club might be cool.

I've never bought a car with intentions of flipping it. I get too attached to everything I buy and don't want to get rid of it, and when I do I rarely make any money off of them. I would just like to see as many back on the road as possible. These guys that hold on to them are doing more harm than good.

I didn't what to post on this but I think should. As being a so called 'Greedy Owner' this time of late 80's GM cars. (between my Dad and I, 5) I've found that when more than one person drives/walks into your backyard without permission, then comes and knocks on your door saying, "I'll give you $200 for that P.O.S." like its a great deal, it becomes old very quick. I know they aren't bugs but the general idea is the same.

I won't make an offer unless they ask, if the owner is interested in selling they'll have a figure of what its worth to them. If a car is sitting in someones yard for years on end, wouldn't it be better if someone else can put it to use? I've never had a car sitting around long enough for someone to ask if its for sale, only because I don't have anywhere to keep them, so I don't know how it feels to have someone ask. A car belongs on the road not in a field, if I need to knock on a few doors to save a couple I will. I don't mean to sound like a dick, its just frustrating to literally watch a car rot away.

I hear you. I tried for years to buy a 23 window bus that was rotting in a driveway. He always said he was going to restore it. Eventually, he moved to Florida and I never saw it again.
Deals are still out there though. (At least in the south) My buddy in Louisiana is always finding something to bring home. Once he paid $500 for a car just because it had a real Empi GT steering wheel. Pulled the steering wheel and sold the car for $500. I got the Hurst shifter.

I will agree with you that it is sad to watch cars rot away in someone's yard, but sometimes those cars are there for a reason. The person may have an emotional tie to the vehicle that they will never tell you about.

I did see an old Cutlass rotting in a back yard with a sign on it saying NOT FOR SALE so I could just imagine how many people knocked on his door.

Hi Ed and Hi Steven. My name is Rudy and I'm a Greedy Bug owner. I only can drive one at a time and have 5. I don't plan on sharing because I'm a Greedy Bug owner (OK, maybe Beth can drive one too).
Here's a situation that illustrates what I really think. Last winter I saw a late model 911 or whatever they call them now being driven around Holland. Meanwhile my plain jane 2wd GMC Canyon was in storage, protected from the salt. While driving a relative POS in the winter was my choice, enjoying the Porsche was his choice. We should not dis each other for differing from our individual ideas. I agree that we can lament the fate of a car, but it is the owners choice what happens to it.
I tried not to enter this, but keeping my feelings to myself isn't one of my strong suits, nor do I want it to be

Good point Rudy,
There are many factors going into what makes a person treat a car the way they do. But the fact that the 64 Bug guy said it will sit and rot before he sells it bugs me and others. Cars being driven and not being treated in what we would think is proper is still better than a car sitting in a field with no purpose.
