I posted a few pics in my introduction but I figure if I want any feedback on this project I might as well make a build thread. Basically what I started with was a bare bones roller. So far my dad and I have cleaned up the gas tank, got the steering column in, found a decent pedal assembly compared to the one that came with it, ground down and bedlined the pan, and just kind of cleaned everything up. Today I am hopefully picking up a buggy on a bug pan that will be a donor of many parts including a 1641. Any input will be appreciated. I'd love to get some ideas on what to do relating to the bumpers or engine cage(pre fab or make my own) I do have access to a welder so I was planning on trying my luck at building one.

"Build it and they will come!" Make sure your cage/bumper is easily removable. Helps when it's engine change time. The sky is the limit when you build it yourself. Any style, any color, any shape, any material. If you mount it to shock towers and trans fork on sleeves, it will be removable and stable when you want it to be. This is the place for questions to be asked!

If you are looking for aftermarket cages, I have some that you can borrow to make yours out of or buy them from me. They will need to be sand blasted as they have paint or surface rust on them.

I was hoping it wouldn't be out of my league to attempt this haha vdub63 that sounds great i'd like to just get a basis for how I should be mounting them/dimensions. The sleeves sound like it will make everything alot easier. I plan on going for a more off road baja but still practical enough to drive around the street. some pics of the donor buggy

It's been a while since i've had time to post my progress, with exams and grad party planning. Alot has gotten done on my little baja. The dune buggy was great for alot of parts I needed and at the bug run I picked up the rest. So far the engine is on and runs size is unknow po's rebuilt about ten years ago and did not remember what they put in, new brake lines/shoes, all lights except turn signals work(have stock tail lights just haven't put them on yet), suprisingly my wiper motor was still good, front bumper, window scrapers, gas tank finished and front and rear suspension. I've been driving it around for about a week now and I love it. I haven't had the chance to get it off the pavement yet sadly but it's still a blast to drive. Still need to get some carpet, put on the tree bars, install the door cards, hook down the back seat, blast and repaint the exhaust, and eventually freshen up the tired paint. Ill post up pics hopefully today I just need to find my camera.

Thanks and for the rears I'm pretty sure they are just the generic coils that are black white and chrome from appletree, they came from the parts buggy. So far I like them but I haven't had it anywhere too rough yet still working on finding a set of tires that aren't bald lol.

thanks, I have regular set of shocks on there. I think they are going to be short when I lift the back.
