Had a busy day so not much time for the bug but I did get the plug wires, fuel line to the pump, and some other small things done. No rush since the exhaust gaskets won't be in till tuesday/wednesday.

Got the fuel lines replaced today, genny strapped down, and then went to put the carb on... It doesn fit! I forgot that the previous owner swapped a 28 PICT-1 in for the original 28PICT. The choke rubs onto the genny's regulator and thats no good. So I found me an old rebuild 28 PICT that will hopefully be here wednesday-thursday... just more time and $$$ Soooo close though!

She lives!
Got some fine tuning to do as its running rich but what a night! Almost a year since I got it... man this thing sounds like a tractor! LOL ;D
Had fuel dripping out the carb at first start attempt so I tore down the carb float and blew out the valve. Still leaking like crazy on attempt #2 and so rich it wouldn't run. Cut some gaskets to jack the fuel pump up some. Fuel pressure dropped and whalla, she took right off with no dripping from the carb. We have a happy household tonight ;D

Nice work! Its an exciting time, can't wait to see it.
Just a thought. I'm not familiar with the 62 fuel pump rod, but maybe a shorter one would work the same as shimming the pump with gaskets.

Thanks for the kind words everybody ;D The only other option (besides grinding it down myself) is to go with the 100mm pump rod, the 108mm is what is in there now. The short on would be too short by 5-6mm. Its pinging under load so i've got a fuel/timing issue. I retarded it but get a complete loss of power on acceleration... but the pinging was gone...LOL Got to find that happy balance. I went around the block a few times while I was adjusting and I felt like I was in a go-kart. This thing really zips around when its timed halfway decent

While trouble shooting the detonation I discovered water in the gas today... I forgot to fill the tank before I put it away last fall and got a nice amount of water and rust inside the tank Pulled the tank, dumped in a length of chain and did the twist for an hour out back. She cleaned up nice...back in tomorrow!

going to be ready for this sunday? It not in the cards this year, I'd rather take my time and enjoy working on it than killing myself for another few days to make the show. Next year! I got the fuel issue sorted today, getting nice clean gas at the carb with no rusty water now. She takes right off ;D Timing next and then the fun cosmetic stuff. I've located some nice stainless steel mesh headlight covers that clip in at the very top and screw in at the bottom. I'll paint the rims for now but down the road I want to powder coat them.
