The motor is finally bolted back onto the rail. I got a few questions tho, what all holds the fan shroud onto the motor and is there supposed to be some sort of band or something that holds the generator to the generator mount.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I was able to run to my friends house today and looked his rail over and seen the clamp your talking about and now I see how the tin or whatever thats supposed to go above the cylinders are supposed to mount to the head and then the shroud bolts to them so I understand now how the shroud is held down. Sad part is we didnt get the tin put in or the wind deflectors and such, but in the first place I figured to just get the motor together take it to d&r buggys or madmike or another guy whose closer to me get the motor running run it for 5 mins or so, then tear down double check the torque on everything and get all the tin and stuff put in. I have to buy the wind deflectors yet thus why I didn't worry about putting them in immediately, I wont be running the motor more than 5-10 minutes without the shrouds and everything in completely.

Noticed a little problem today, The rear beams or whatever that support the motor are pretty rotted out, so what is usually done about this? Do I need to find a new frame or is there a common way to fix this?

I'm thinking we need pictures to give good advice here. Do you have any? Depending on how rotted and where they might be fixable.

I can get some pictures tonight, the passenger side has a hole about 3-4" long and an inch or 2 wide and horizontally the beam looks like it was bending down and someone bent it up so it has like a minor s bend in it. But ya I'll get pictures asap.

Well the motor is together, and the rail is at the mechanic. Still no clue if anything in the electrical department is any good. Still have to locate a battery before he can start working on it.

Finally heard back from the mechanic, I was kinda surprised with the diagnosis; Small oil leak at the bottom of the oil cooler (couple little seals and problem solved), not pumping enough gas (figured as much when the tips were clogged with mud, and the half of the motor that was tore down no longer had the rocker shims so the valves aren't closing all the way. So new fuel pump, rocker shims, and oil cooler seal and it should be running. He said they backed the rockers out as far as they could and even with the lack of gas flow it wanted to start but obviously it wouldn't. So I am hoping to have it running late this week and if it is you don't know how happy I'll be, to have bought this half in a box knowing nothing about rebuilding motors (even tho I am certified to do so) and to single handed bring this thing near inch's from life is amazing to me:) I will update once I round up the parts and get them on the rail.

Had to hound the mechanic after like 3 or 4 weeks of not hearing anything and finally got the call I kind of been waiting for! Good News: The buggy starts up and runs! Bad News: When running theres a "ting" noise and after running for an amount of time the motor locks up.< Kind of an upside if you then roll the motor back a little bit by hand, It will then refire! So I'm heading over tomorrow with my magnet and other tools in hand to see if I can't find a nut or bolt or something floating around in the motor, the mechanic feels its most likely in the cylinder some how and is jamming between the piston and the head or something in that line. Once thats found all I think I need to do is rebuild the carbs, one is leaking gas major.

If there is a nut loose in the case where do you think it came from? Fall off of a rod? Or just an extra that was dropped in? Kinda sounds scary I hope you find whatever is stopping your engine.

Went out today it only took like 15 minutes to find what I believe is the problem, He wouldnt let me tear down the motor on his property for "liability" reasons. But when I pulled the spark plugs, 3 plugs all looked the same and the gap on the 4th was knocked down and the top of the plug (the tab that sticks over the electrode or whatever) is all shiny, so I'm guessing the problem lies in the number 1 cylinder (front passenger side). I have to find someone to haul the rail back to my house in the next day or two (my transmission is acting funny when hauling the trailer.) I will have more information when I get it back home and can tear down. And I still have to find carb kits, I guess in order to get the buggy to run he had to keep it almost wide open throttle to compensate for all the gas flooding in. D&R buggy say they don't have carb kits for the 34ict webers, said they have em for bigger carbs but I guess what i have are baby carbs lol. And I remember dropping lots of nuts and bolt and washer just thought we fished them all out, as for whatever is in that cylinder i really dont know, I'm 90% sure it didnt fall in there when we put the heads on so I'm guessing something went down in before we put the carbs on and we just didn't notice it.

Tore the head off today and found what im guessing used to be a washer, its in about 5 pieces now and I think there were more pieces that probably went out the exhaust but I don't know. So the head is back on free of debris now I just need to get my carbs up to madmike and hope he can work his magic and save me from having to buy the carb kits, I would just rebuild them myself but I don't like doing things I've never done before. What I found when removing the head! And I started to do a little painting on the rail since I was bored and I hate the burgundy color.

MAKE SURE YOUR VOLUME ISN'T UP TOO LOUD! Here's a short video of what we've finally achieved. Major Thanks to MadMike! Still need to rebuild 1 carb and a couple little things but now she runs and no ping noises due to washers that fell into cylinders! On the way to Mikes my speed sensor went out in my pickup and had no Speedometer or cruise control on my trip to atlanta and back.

Spent some time outside today, Got the on/off switch and the push button start installed, waiting on the drill battery to charge so I can screw the floor pan or whatever back in and mount the seats in. Generator is hooked up right I think, just need to figure out how to do the voltage drop test to see if it is actually doing anything.

if you haven't put your passenger seat back in and don't mind, could you snap a pic of your seat mounts? i've got some poly seats i wanna put in mine but with my current setup i don't have enough headroom to use em. looks like what you have helps that alot. thanks
