Well.....I can't seem to stop smiling. Took the buggy out for a ride today, not far just a few miles. The steering was a total shock to me. I forgot what it felt like. The buggy's wheelbase is about 1/5 the size of the vehicle I normally drive! I still need to do some carb tuning and or fix exhaust leaks. I have some popping under acceleration.

I have been thinking about building a new chassis for the buggy. currently it is registered and insured as a beetle which I have learned is not legal. instead of getting it registered as an assembled vehicle on a frame I don't intend to keep, I need to look into my options. was going to buy one from berrien but. I am thinking about building my own tube frame for it. considering going to a mid engine setup with coil over suspension an maybe A-arm front. I want a low stance and performance handling. I am trying to get my hands on a design program so I can work everything out before I start to build. I will probably have a shop build the chassis, any recommendations on who to call in the kalamazoo area?

Any particular reason you want to build a new chassis? Getting it titled as an assembled roadster is really not that difficult. You'll still need to go through the same process with a fabricated chassis.

No real reason to build a new frame other than for performance. I am looking at getting a big turbo motor and trans. But I don't know, I should just build up the vw chassis. that would be more than enough for me but I saw website for super light cars and they think 1400 lbs is light. it just got me thinking. I could build something lighter and faster!

Can't find your video on my phone, I will look again when I get home. the guy that has this turbo motor is claiming 400+ hp. would the stock vw chassis hold that power? I have thought of putting it in a rail and leave my buggy for cruising. just thinking about my options.

400hp in a 1400lb tub Buggy would be a little dangerous imo.

400hp in a 1400lb tub Buggy would be a little dangerous imo. That's what I was thinking about the stock chassis. but in a stiffer mid engine frame with Q1A adjustable coil overs, big fat tires all around and a wheelie bar it should some stupid sick fun! A long wheelbase dragster would be cool too.

Does he have the Dyno sheet ? or is he guessing? how much boost was he running? what size is it?one can always dial it down and be very streetable

I think that 250 horsepower in a tub buggy would be marginally streetable
Big horsepower in a short wheelbase is a recipe for disaster in my opinion. Throw in the tiny steering wheel that must buggy guys seem to like, and the steering is really heavy, but fairly quick.
Get one of these sideways, and I don't think you can catch it in time.
I know I couldn't.
There are a couple of Puma guys who run 911 power, and that would be scary to me, and not something I would ever try. I think it would be unpleasant. My car is less than 1600 lbs.
Whack a foot off of the wheelbase with more horsepower and spooky handling even when standing still...an accident waiting to happen.

That's pretty cool! This is the website of the super light cars, modern twist on the buggy body. Seems like being mid engine would improve handling. superlitecars.com/The guy that has this engine is my future son-in-law. The engine belonged to his dad who wants nothing to do with it now. He cant remember what the specs on it are other than it has 25lbs of boost, 471hp on the dyno. I think he is blowing excessive boost up my(insert rest of pun here!) He only wants $500 for it, wouldnt listen when I tried to tell him what its worth. Even if its only a little motor with a small turbo it would be worth it. But when we tear it apart and it IS something decent, I would consider building a car around the engine. I was looking at the mendeola front suspension today, that would be a nice addition. www.mendeolasuspension.com/t-1-front-suspension.htmlMaybe I'm nuts but I think a chassis can be built to support a big hp engine. The biggest hurdle is the cost. I still have my old truck I want to restore...so I dont know
