Finally had couple days off work that I could spend at home. Cooling tins are back on, carbs finished up and mounted, fuel lines ran. Tomorrow I will hook up the thottle linkage, put oil in the case and get couple gallons of gas so I can turn the key. With any luck I will have the buggy at the bug run.

Had some problems to work through while setting up carbs. Right side carb wouldn't sync correctly because the engine is too narrow. Stock stroke plus .070 flycut caused issues I had to trim about an 1/8 inch off the right side linkage rod so the butterfly would close. Also had to dent sides of shroud so carb body would not hit it. Thought it might cause a leak at base of manifold. When I push on the gas the throttles don't open the whole way. Believe my cable comes thru the shroud too far to the left. That problem is not solved yet. I put plug wires on, got the crappy old exhaust on. Then I stripped a nut on the oil drain plate! Needless to say, its not running yet. And I got a new mooney's metal flake steering wheel at the street rod show. That'll make me faster!

I added a poll about bringing a non running car to the bug run. I think I have it soooo close to turning that key! Might be able to finish it up Sunday morning. Let me know what you think.

Couldn't make it to the track, got called into work. I did have a little time tonight to work on the buggy. Again, no go getting the thing started. Tried to prime oil pump and engine would crank for a second then lock up. I had to use a wrench to move the crank, it broke free and make a clunk noise, the starter spun free and grinding. So I did it again and clunk sounded like it came from behind the engine. I pulled the starter and the gear had wear on the tips. Flywheel teeth felt worn too.

I've been trying to figure out why my starter teeth are worn. Been looking on the web, think it is the starter bushing. Now I need to figure out what year trans I have. I might need bushing for 6 volt trans with 12 volt I.D. think while I'm at it I should pull the engine to check the flywheel to make sure it is a 200mm 12 volt.
I put a new starter on last year. Started fine for a while but occasionally the engine would lock while cranking. I thought it was a battery cable connection at first then I thought about moving the crank pulley. That probably released the starter from the flywheel so it had a chance to crank again. Till it finally gave out. Guess I shouldn't have cut the corner and just installed the new bushing.

Why not use an auto stick/ Thing self supporting starter may help your problem. No bushing required. Faster cranking also.

Ruffus, thanks for the auto stick starter idea. Didn't know that that would work. Unfourtunatley I won't be able to make it to the tech session. I do 6 days on & 2 off so I only get 2 sundays off every six weeks. Five weeks till my next weekend off

Took buggy on a road test today. Only went about 2 blocks and it died. Either I have a weak battery or I have the fuel pressure to low. I couldn't get the engine to restart due to the battery being drained. Gonna spend all day tomorrow getting the thing to run right.

Check the fuel filter (the ends get crimped from the clamps) it will let it start and run but as soon as you get far away enough to where you have to walk..... putumpda.

I checked the fuel filter ends, they are ok. Checked rest of fuel lines, no crimps or restrictions that I can see. The fuel regulator is new. Any chance there might be some manufacturing crude blocking flow? I'll check that next. It acts like either fuel or spark is cut out. Won't restart and I drain the battery trying.

What kind of regulator? If one of the round chrome dial types, most say to junk it.
