Is this the one from Craigslist for $1300 because the people were moving? Looks like a great start!

Yep, Thats the one. First off, I have to thank Steve for assisting me in my hunt for a new project. In a very indirect way, he hooked me up. You see, he sent me to a guy with a pair of 66's in my area. I called the guy and he proceeded to talk my ear off for more than 45 minutes. I think I said fifteen words in the whole conversation. He went on and on about how great the 66 and 67 bugs were, and then he told me how much he wanted for the two 66's he had. I just about fell over. I think he was interested in the conversation, not really in getting rid of the bugs. Well, the next morning I was looking on the Samba and found that add. The only reason I clicked on it was because of the conversation I had the day before with Steves buddy. The add had no pics and I almost never look at adds without pics. Well, I blew it off and went to a meeting. I came back and clicked on it again. "Oh, what the heck, send the guy an E:Mail." He replied right away and the more he talked, the better it sounded. Steve and I were on the road within two hours heading for Jackson. My original intent was to cut it up and make a Volksrod out of it, but after looking it over, it's too nice to cut up I think. More thought will be needed here. I will know a lot more after I get all the "bonus" material out of the inside of the car. Lots of pop bottles, oil cans, antifreeze jugs? and of course a few extra pole barn miniature sized "livestock" have taken up winter quarters in there as well. And the stink!!! OMG, it stinks. Lots of cleaning will be in order. Does anyone know how to directly feed Febreeze into a pressure washer so it sprays 100% Febreeze? I will put up some more pics when I get it home and start the "process" Camper

Once Steve told the girls you got a bug, they had to see the pics before leaving for school this morning! They're probably as excited as you are ;D

To bad the driver side rear fender is a different shade of yellow. I believe that with lots of elbow grease and some buffing compound the original paint could shine again.

Hey AJ, That rear fender has been painted, however, the color match is very good, what you are seeing there is patina. I have a few more pics after a bit of cleaning and a quick wash. It's looking much better already. Can't wait to get into the interior cleaning. Before After

Some serious cleaning today. First thing, clean all the crap out. A big pile to be sure. I found the "Bag of gold" It was a small canvas bag filled with change, mostly quarters. There was $26.59 in there. a quick soak in vinegar and they look like new. Thats enough to buy a couple of patch pannels for repairing some rust. However, the biggest short term problem is the mice. I caught one last night, and cleaned out lots of nesting material, but I saw at least two more in there today. I found the mother load of nesting. Apparently someone cut an access hole in the tunnel next to the parking brake. I looked behind this and found a tunnel full of nest. I completely filled my 15 gallon shop vac with nest. There was a whole mouse trailer park going on in there. Thats the reason the car is still parked outside, There is no way I am bringing it in until the livestock has been shipped off to slaughter. So far, so good. No big surprises. It looks like I will need a few patch panels and I will be back in business. Next step, tear out the nasty headliner. Any tips? Camper

I trapped two more of the little buggers last night. I have to be getting close to the end. I will reset the traps at lunch time. I really hate mice in my car...

The Beetle looks much better after cleaning.
If you have mice nests like that you may want to pull the engine before you start driving it. Mice love to also build nests in the engine cooling shrouds and heater system. Seeing the mice nests remind me of the time I stripped out my blue 69 Ghia.
I like finding treasures in just purchased old VW's too.

Oh Yah, I can see the nesting material in the air shroud. I am sure they were in there. I will certainly pull the engine before I try to start things up. I think I will just go through it to be sure. The Previous Owner said it was running when he parked it, but I am pretty sure I have heard that story before. Another mouse this morning. Six total so far. I must be getting close to the end. I did get the rest of the interior stripped out today. There is no more "soft" stuff inside that car. I can scrub things down with some really powerful soap and let it dry for a bit this coming weekend I think. Then I need to figure out what to do next I guess. Start stripping the fenders and bumpers in prep for removing the body? Livin' the dream, Camper
