This thread is just about everyone's thoughts on the Color Tour.
I just received an email from Ron from the Michiana Group. He said that he is extremely busy with life and would not be able to plan a Color Tour correctly.
So this year its just us.
I have no problem with planning a nice route again this year but I really want your input of how well you liked it, did not like it, and what would you like to see changed.
This year I want to start the Color Tour somewhere with a central location to help get everyone together. I am suggesting that we start somewhere East of 69 and around 94. I am hoping that keeping the starting and ending locations near freeway interchanges will attract more club members (less chance to get lost).
Ron suggested sometime after the 15 of October but the color may start early due to the dry August that we had.
I like the idea of a Cider Stop.
Any other ideas?

AJ:
The cider stop sounds good to me as well. I'll start looking for interesting roads in the area.

Vermontville - Nashville area is nice around mid-October. Maybe we could start somewhere around Eaton Rapids or Onondaga (or even Marshall or Albion) and head west through Vermontville, Nashville, Hastings?
Find a place to eat in Hastings, then folks could go home - centrally located between GR, BC, Kazoo and Lansing.

Let's try to get near St. Johns and the cider mill. Lots of fun for everybody there.

That sounds good. Maybe meet in Charlotte and go up to St. Johns via Vermontville, etc. Does the Cider Mill serve food too?
PS Ya know, since it's just us this year, it might be a good opportunity to plan a more northern route anyway as the Indiana folks won't be around to object....

Art:
Cider, donuts, food, wine tasting, lots of good stuff. And, as one who has obviously consumed more than his fair share of donuts through the years...
Two big thumbs up. I usually try to get there a few time each fall.
Also, we should still extend an invitation to the good folks in Indiana...

What is the address of this "Cider Mill?"
I am thinking of a stop there I to love my Cider
We have a Cider Mill here in Oshtemo, sorry can't remember the name, but they sell UN-PASTEURISED Cider aka the good stuff.
Yes invite every Volkswagen Club! I just think we should plan the route with a somewhat central location so every GoodVolks member can attend.
Also next question how long should the route be? Was it to short or to long last year?

All sounds good to me; but let's be sure to plan it for peak color around St. Johns area then. We were a week too early last year as I recall. [in my BEST Homer Simpson] ymmmmmmmmmm.... donuts.

I just went back and looked at the posting for last years Color Tour - it was 10 Oct and from pics posted by dansam, Steven, and others, you can see some color but it looks like it was still a week away from optimum IMHO. thegoodvolks.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discuss&action=display&thread=1495&page=5On the other hand, if we're going further north this year, like to St. Johns, that might be about right - all else the same. I think we should also strongly consider AJ's point in the 1st post about the color perhaps starting earlier due to the weather. Anybody an expert on this???

Man Id like to do this a bit later in the year this year like a week later or so. Not enough color the last time. Maybe the last weekend in Oct, or middle of the month?? Im really geeked to do this though.

Im really geeked to do this though. MVVC's is the 24th, so what about the 17th for us (we're going a little further north - assuming we wind up in St. John's like the discussion seems to be leaning towards). MVVC is going along the Huron River terminating in Monroe.

The 17th sounds good to me. I've started looking for some roads in that area as well, and Uncle John's is going to let me know if we can get segregated for a mini-show.

Aj the name of the apple orchard in Oshtemo is Verhage's. If you watch the weather a lot when it starts to get closer they will "try " and announce when peak is, I think that we missed it last year buy like a week too! It was so beautiful that next week. A cider mill sounds like lots of fun! This is Jamie... I forgot to log in under my name lol

OK, so the consensus seems to be the 17th, ending in St. Johns, but starting where?
Tom Siligato of MVVC and I were talking Sunday about color tours and thought that for NEXT YEAR it might be fun to get 3-4 groups together (Michiana, GoodVolks, MVVC, Toledo) to schedule fall cruises on the SAME DAY with each club starting separately and rondevous at a central location for one big dinner. TOm suggested even hooking up the last 20 miles or so and cruising together. Something to think about for next year.
