installed a new clutch and pressure plate to get it ready for the dunes this week. then the brand new starter went out with in a day. took it back and got a starter for a automatic stick shift and it worked great. until i got to the dunes. the carb started flooding the engine and the solenoid started going on the starter. bought a carb rebuild kit and new spark plugs from apple tree and now the solenoid is totally dead on the starter. i think im done with a VW engine in my rail. this thing ran absolutely perfect until it got pulled of the trailer to hit the dunes.

got a 80 something rx-7 at work im getting the engine and cpu out of... any one know of any detailed pictures of the rear on one already built?
actually ive been debating on a rotary engine a90's ranger engine a buick L27 or L36. i have a LOT to choose from engine wise. anything fuel injected. so far the rotary engine seems the best bet weighing only a few more pounds then the 1600 dp

Make certain that you have a fresh Mazda engine.
Rotarys are VERY cool, but in use like a rail seem have the life expectancy of a potato chip. They are very susceptible to sand and hard treatment and cost approximately one million dollars to repair.
I might look at Subaru if you are serious. They make lots of horsepower, and lots of things like gearbox adapters already exist.

Dave the engine i can get has 150+ miles on it and starts on spray. frame rotted to heck no brakes and am guessing fuel pump is crap. the only subis i can get a hold of at my work are JUNK. very rare to get them in with good engines. although we do have 2 vanagans in going to auction... both fuel injected i know one of them starts on spray not sure about the other

okay just checked the spark again. getting nothing at the plugs. turned it it over by wrench while looking at the point i see a very faint spark when it opens and closes. where should i start? new cap and rotor? the plugs and wires were just replaced recently update:new cap and rotor and still no spark. getting continuity in all wires for the plugs update update:: got spark. the fuse for the ignition switch keeps blowing so i took it out of the equation and that was my problem. i should have known better . hooked the inline fuse back up and it almost fired right up. got it started on spray and it ran great for about 30 seconds. going to need a new battery as i think this one may be on its way out. would like to completely redo all the wiring and relocate the battery near the starter. the cable on the end near the battery gets hot and i think that when it starts popping fuses.
