bought a sand rail last year. was told the left rear brake was freezing up turned out to be a ripped up bearing. i was in a rush to buy it instead of renting one at silver lake and just bought it. fixed the bearing and away we went. it lasted 1 day in the dunes(beat the piss out of it). second day went to start it up at the camp sight and the bearing some how came loose over night. chewed up my t/o fork. bent a few push rods trying to fix it there. FINALLY the engine is back together and im ready to stick it back into the rail. only thing stopping me is #1 need a new fork #2 need new bushings for it. where could get these parts at a local store that has them in stock? local to me is oakland county/flint area.only thing i know about the rail is its an AH earlyto mid 70's. not sure of the trans.i count 2 full ribs and it looks like the shifter rod portion is slightly off centeredto the 2 large ribs. is there an alternative to the weak bearing clips that hold it onto the fork?

Barnum's is a cool place. Fun to dig through the cars in the junk yard. Seemed to have good prices on the new stuff too.

finally got the engine running on gas from the carb . took a rebuild kit and a lot of adjusting. the bottom of the float bowl was about half inch thick of white substance. now im in need of 1 starter bolt, exhaust bolts and gaskets. possibly a new clutch kit including fork/bushings for it and a t/o bearing ::edit:: i dont think my accelerator pump is working properly. when i had the float bowl cover off i was watching the accel pump shooting fuel back into the bowl instead of the faucet type thing in the top of the crab. even with a new diaphragm on it what would cause this?

Plugged passage in the carb could be causing you the problem. Did you clean the carb when you did the rebuild kit? Soak it multiple hours (torn down, only the metal parts), spray all passages and surfaces with carb cleaner, then blow it all out with compressed air? Don't ask how I know how critical this is....

didnt let it soak for hours but i did clean out all the passages making sure fluid could flow through them. is the accel pump supposed to operate with a check ball to block the fluid from going back into the bowl?

There's a little brass plug inside the float bowl with an internal thread. The accelerator pump check valve ball is under that plug. The thread is the same as a beetle taillight screw, so you can just screw one into the plug and then pull it out with the plug attached. Clean everything up in there (I like Cyclo carb cleaner) and then put the ball back in and seat it by giving it a light tap with a suitable rod and a small hammer. Drive the plug back in and then put a little WD-40 or something similar in the float bowl and work the throttle lever to check its operation.

are you saying to take a screw out of a tail light and put it into the check ball thing where i seen the fuel coming out then pull it out with out unscrewing it?
