This winter, our tractor/equipment maintenence man retired. I was selected to "absorb" this position. So, along with 13 pump sites, 18 "hard hoses", and 4 linears, I've picked up 30+ tractors, a bunch of implements, and a few planters. I also moved my family about 12 miles further away from my work, adding about 35-40 minutes a day to my commute. So, needless to say, extra time doesn't happen often.

Well, I spent 6 years with the USAF as a avionics tech, and 22 years in a small independent auto parts store in Paw Paw. My job in auto parts was eliminated, and I went back to school to become a nurse. After 6 years of unemployment, in Jan of this year I started part time as a nurse at the Allegan county jail. I am currently employed full time at the Berrien Co. jail.I am working from from 5p to 5am, and I am the entire medical staff for 350 inmates during that time period.

Going on year five of being a full time student. Last year = light at the end of the tunnel! Finally. I've had senioritis for the past year. I'm ready to move on and do something else. I need a change. It's time.

Hahaha, I hear you. I have had senior status for over a year now. Unfortunately adding an industrial control minor tacked on an extra year and a half.

Finally read this thread tonight - lots of interesting careers. Mine really began in the land surveying/civil engineering field. I have a degree in Drafting from Kellogg Community College. Did that work for probably 6 years, then got my foot in the door at the City of Battle Creek Engineering Division. That was 1996. Did a couple different roles there before moving into an administrative roll about 10 years ago. I've been in my current position, Streets and Parks Superintendent, for 6 years. I'm responsible for all aspects of routine street maintenance such as potholes, snow plowing, trees, guard rails, road kill, and street sweeping. I also am responsible for the park maintenance crews, traffic signals and signs, three cemeteries, and the downtown maintenance activities. Basically, if it's above ground in the public right-of-way, it's me. And yes, last winter we were busy! We maintain about 300 miles of roads here in Battle Creek.
The last couple years I tried parted out a couple beetles, but not much $ there.
That's me....

You guys sure had a busy winter! I know the Houghton County road commission was extremely busy this past winter with 338+ inches of snow. Hopefully we have another killer winter again. Having lots of snow is fun.
