Hey everybody. I was at one of the schools in my jurisdiction today and one of the teachers started talking to me about how he liked my VW (which I haven't driven there in some time so it must have made an impression on him). He then stated he's got a 63 with a single port 1500 in it sittin in storage for approx 6 years. See, he had an accident and is in a wheelchair, I think paralyzed from the waist down. He said before he couldn't drive it he had done work like new rear brakes, etc but they're probably frozen up; not sure if it runs, etc. Well, I am thinking maybe in the spring we could see what his car is all about and/or maybe give him a ride(s), etc. Maybe even have him over if we do a test n tune at my house again; something if he is willing to be involved. He is a really nice guy and always smiling despite the setback he's been dealt. Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud, next spring is a long ways away (unfortunately). I can try to get some more info from him between now and then. Take care...

We have parts and tools.
I think it would be cool to show up at his place with a ton of VW's. Kind of like a mini VW car show in his drive way.

I'm thinking we can plan this over the winter and surprise the heck out of him in the spring, guys and gals. I'll try to get more info without him knowing it in the meantime since we have the time at this point.

Hey all. I have been down fighting H1N1 with major complications due to my breathing troubles (asthma) so that has been the past 5-6 weeks already Anyway, I did find out the guy is a quadriplegic after he broke his back falling out of a tree while on an outing with kids(either church or school-related) out west approx 5-6 yrs ago. So, he is very deserving and the school personnel will gladly help us plan something with his wife's knowledge for sometimne in the spring, whenver we can decide at a later date. The VW is actually stored somewhere in the area at his parents house, I didn't find out much more about that yet--BUT I WILL Anyway, finals and good holidays are rapidly approaching. Hope everyone is well, I'll keep in touch as possible...

Hi all! Happy 2010! Its been a while since we visited this topic and next thing you know, it'll be warmer (wouldn't take much from today, would it? lol). I still really want to do something for this guy in the spring. I think we may even be able to get some press coverage for our group of awesome veedub do-gooders. Several people from the school district have asked me about this so there is interest from others he works with and that know him. I guess we can play it by ear and see what plans we can come up with as spring gets closer. Also we would like to host another test 'n tune at our house in Allendale this year if thats possible. We had a great time and would like to see even more cars if possible that we can host it again sometime this spring...

maybe it should be more like "Overhaulin", get with family and make it look like car was stolen (yeah, right?) or family were gonna make it a surprise, but got scammed by a repair guy who vanished with car....and get it at least running, tires, brakes, etc....
