A.J how about a dash mounted rear view mirror? As far as the duplex outlet, do you know any electric engineers? They might be able to help..... all joking aside the oulet do you want to run your stereo at home in the garage? or what would it be for?
Oh ya Congrats on your first trophy... Hopefully many more to come if your into trophys. Great job !!!!!

Could you install one of those back up camera deals with a screen? What about that stereo with the screen, could you use that?

I do have all of the stuff to do all of that here in the garage. I have the screen and the camera. I thought that it would be cool to mount the camera in the engine bay to watch the engine running. The only problem is that the radio that I have now is much better quality than the radio/screen combo.
I was thinking of mounting all of this stuff in my dream Bus. I was also thinking of mounting the camera on the front bumper and have the screen on during shows so people can see each other on my screen. Plus even mounting a rear cam for backing up.

Sorry vdub36 I did not answer your question. I have thought about a dash mounted rearview. I even asked on the Samba about that one. Someone replied back and said that it was ok but not worth the trouble. He kept starring at his shoulder and that it did not have a day/night setting. I even tried to look for one and all that I could find was chrome. I really did not want to pay top dollar for a chrome one just so I can repaint it black to match the car.
What I thought about doing on my mirror was to remove the light fixture. Fill it with something and paint the whole assembly black.
As for the house plug I had one in the GTI. I found it very nice to plug stuff in. My wife used it to charge her computer and cell phone. I once used it to plug in a trouble light to change a tire at night. Think of the possibilities microwave oven. coffee maker. toaster. and even a blender. Just a thought

I have finally drove 1000 miles in my Ghia since the rebuild and the new motor. Time for the first oil change. So that was todays project along with rear brake adjusting, new filter screen, cleaning of oil by-pass valve, valve adjustment, and timing check.
Off with a Sunday drive with my Wife. Dropped a $20 in the gas tank ran some errands. Then off to South Haven Light House. The Ghia ran excellent the best ever. Just before we stop to eat my wife unplugs Tom-Tom and the Ghia dies just as we are coming to a stop, After a few minutes it starts up and we proceed. After a quick check when my wife was pulling on the Tom-Tom plug she bumped the key and shut off the Ghia.
After dinner the gas gage reads empty so time to drop some more money. I was only able to squeeze $10.00 into the tank. Well thats not right it takes more money then that to fill the tank. So I force feed it fuel until it barfs gas all over the place. I guess that my gas gage is off too like Ruffuss's
The trip home went smoothly no problems at all.

South Haven is a nice place but it was a little cloudy today. Yesterday would have been a nicer day for a drive.

During the test and Tune I popped the linkage for the accelerator pump on the carb. I ran some non impressive times and even worse reaction times not fun. Thanks to Kenn for giving me a paper clip I managed to drive it home.
Last week I did a quick rebuild on my carb thanks to Kenn for giving me a new accelerator pump. Also the Ghia was not charging good so I started to rebuild a generator just to find out that my connections were loose all better now I think.
During the Color Tour my transmission is starting to get worse more grinding when down shifting. I think I have finally found my winter project along with rear suspension bushings.

Sorry but there is not really any more crazy stuff to my story. The interior carpet went down smoothly as did the head liner. I have worked out the bugs with the engine. All that I really have left is the tinkering stuff. I am planning on removing the engine this fall/winter to just clean it up. I am still deciding on if I want to have the trans done also. I will post pictures of the engine clean up and rear suspension rebuild if you would like.
This evening I drove the Ghia for the first time in 2 weeks sorry I have been slacking. I do like the feel of my new shift knob it fits my hand better than the small old knob.

Time for an update its been too long sorry but not much has been done. The only thing I have done to the Ghia so far was to remove all of the tin for powder coating. The best part is that I removed all of the tin with the engine still in the car. Sorry Beetle guys. Want proof check the picture. Next will come removing the engine as soon as I free up my engine stand from the Bus engine.
