Ok, well I suppose I have enough pictures for a decent start to a project thread.. Heres how it looked originally, minus the paint flakes.. Heres the 1835 motor unclean Heres just an hour of cleaning. A nice and dirty interior.. Here is the first oil based primer coat. There was a few holes in the floor from a leaking sunroof... So we had to braze them... The pans are getting pretty weak, but we're hoping for a few more years of abuse out of them. How about that for a wiring nightmare. About 10 hours later and look how perdy it looks now. We even know what wires run where I got a brand new set of coil over shocks. They make the bug sit a little taller, and should really help off road. Here is a picture of my fiance.. Shes honestly really supportive of me spending money on the bug... I think shes getting a soft spot for it. I had my fiance on spray paint duty today, and she did a spectacular job repainting the side bars and bumpers.

Looks sharp. I like that its a sunroof. The motor looks sweet. Also I like the dash. Looks like fun.

Great start so far. Are you planning to drive it on the road at all or just off road?

I had the same coil overs on the front of my old baja. They were pretty stiff, but they look cool. You have two weeks to slap the engine in and get it road worthy for the bug run.

Well, I have all the wiring figured out for being on the road. The transmission is currently in the shop having a super diff installed, then it'll be bulletproof (hopefully). My goal is to drive it to the races here in 2 weeks. I need new tie rod ends for the passenger side, a front end alignment, my transmission, my parts to come for the turn signal bulb holder, some brake light switches, finish up the rear tube bumper mounts, and to get some headlights installed... Not a whole lot, as long as I get all the required parts for it by this coming weekend.

I made some great progress today. Look what West Michigan Transmission got me. MMMMM Cleanin up the hole it goes in. And Walah. It magically popped together. All tucked up in there. And how about a brand new tie rod ends for the passenger side of the car. We got it fired up and ran some kerosene through the tranny twice to help rinse all the metal shavings out. Tomorrow or Monday we'll actually get to take her for a road test. List of stuff to complete yet. Headlights Headlight mounts Blinker grounds Taillights Brake light switches Back Bumper mounts finished Figure out the wiring on the gauges.

Looks good. Must be nice to not have a rear apron in the way when installing a motor. Motors have never just poped in for me!

Yeah, it is really easy and very simple to do without any of that excess steel in the way. 4 bolts, like 5 wires, and one throttle cable. Anyways Ive made some serious progress over the last few days. Got the back bumper mounts all fabbed up and finished. Got her all washed up. Needs to be buffed, but too many paint flaws currently anyways. My dad put on some new brake switches, so my brake lights work. He also fabbed up a plate for the front bumper to house 2 driving lights, as well as 2 150 watt off road lights. Things left to do. ~Perhaps bleed the brakes ~Check lug nuts and air pressure. ~Finish up wiring headlights and front signals ~Might have a wiring issue yet with the blinker relay in general. ~Gauges As long as the weather permits, I will probably be able to take her this weekend. I need to get a few miles on it before a 60 mile trek down the expressway.
