This has got to be too simple to put in the "tech" section: I seem to have never really figured out how the rear-seat-back mechanism works in my '68 Bug (I never even used it in my old '69 or my '72 super!) All it seems to do for me is get stuck or gouge at my headliner (luckily where you can't see it). I'm thinking that something must be pretty hinky back there, but when in place, it does hold the seat-back in the upright position, so it is at least partly functional. Here are a couple pics of the current orientation. I have a feeling this isn't the way this is supposed to be. If someone could tell me what the proper orientation of the mechanism is, then I'll be one step closer to getting it to work properly when I put it back in. Top picture the bottom of the seat is on the left. Bottom picture the bottom of the seat is on the right.

Hi David, Here's a pic of some seatbacks that I have. Note that the arm goes down and towards the front. Yours appears to be about 180 degrees off. Rudy
