Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Grand Rapids? I looked at the vendor list and there is nothing in GR.
I am good to go with tune ups, valve adjustment, brake adjustment, wheel bearings, carb overhaul, etc.
I am just thinking about further down the road ... if I need work done on something like the clutch or trans. I'd like to have someone in mind before that ever happens.

I'm unsure of who would work on old VWs in GR (maybe Steve over at Steve's Antique Auto, but they're really more of a pre-war domestic and hot rod shop). We're in Holland and while we specialize in British stuff we'll do anything that doesn't have a computer and every person who works at the shop has at least 1 VW. There's a 56, 58, 62, 66 and my 74 Beetle, a 70s Bus, a 73 Thing, and a 79 Super in our respective stables. We also have many regular VW customers in the area to go along with the various other stuff we deal with. If you're ever in Holland, stop by and check us out: www.eclecticmotorworks.com445 West 22nd St. Holland, MI 49423

I have Triumph TR6 which I have owned since 1979. Eclectic in Holland is a great bunch, very reputable and a big supporter of the hobby. If they work the same magic on a VW they work on British iron, you can't go wrong.

I appreciate the tips but I am really looking for someone in Grand Rapids. Currently I'd like to find someone to replace my strut inserts. I have some that I got from wolfsburg west. Could use some help getting them in.

Thanks, it does help! I may wind up going there. I did talk to Steve at Steve's Antique Auto. He sounds super nice. But his location and hours make it a little hard for me. Thanks again.

The Zeeuw brothers at German Auto do great work in Gr. They are off Leonard just south and 131, north of Downtown.
