Well, the air conditioning was not working on the Volvo 760 Turbo, and there was a vacuum leak under the dashboard.
I suspected they might be related, and after I removed much of the dash, I found a line than when I clamped it, the leak went away. Unfortunately, the vacuum line disappeared deep inside the dashboard.
I decided to take the car into a Volvo dealer to have it looked at by a Volvo mechanic that knew a lot about a 28 year old Volvo.
He found that the vacuum line actually went through the firewall, and was connected to the intake manifold, which meant that it was actually the controller unit that was bad.
He opened the unit up, and found that the vacuum distributor had failed, and cracked, which was why the unit was leaking.
The odd thing is, the vacuum distributor is made out of white metal, and is a disc that is surrounded by an O-ring has absolutely no load on it at all. You can twist it with two fingers, and was well lubricated, as was the O-ring.
The only thing I can figure out is perhaps it was defective in manufacture? No idea...never seen anything like it before.
It looks to be an easy fix to replace it, but parts look sketchy right now. I a new part in the Netherlands, and just have to make certain that it is the correct part.
After the new controller is installed, we can see if the air conditioning actually works...
