Hey Everybody:
I just picked up a new toy.
It's a 1987 Volvo 760 Turbo.
It has a turbocharged and intercooled engine that makes 190 horsepower, and road tests say that can go from 0-60 in under 8 second, which makes it pretty quick.
It a very nice car. It was owned by a retired Volvo engineer. He moved to Okemos from North Carolina. The car has been garaged for the last 15 years, and has a whopping 40,000 actual miles on it.
I have not done anything to it yet, other than have the oil changed with Royal Purple synthetic oil. So far, the only flaws I have found is the radio does not work correctly, the spare tire is flat, the dome light has a mounting tab that is cracked, and the headliner is coming down in the back.
Here are a couple of photos at the shop waiting to get the oil changed.
It has not even been really washed or waxed yet.
Supposedly these things will run 300,000 miles.
Apparently, this is the most common view of the car on the road.
I have not been able to drive it much yet, but it does feel hellishly fast. The engine is a 2.3 liter 4-cylnder engine, with an intercooler the size of the radiator. I was looking at some sites devoted to fast Volvos, and from what I can gather, you can make 275 horsepower with little more that a chip and a thicker intercooler. I think I will remove the Volvo badges from the back and side of the car...why let everybody know you are driving a fast car...
Dave Riedle
P.S. I have looked for a curve somewhere on the car, and have not found one yet...
