Greetings all!
My name is Alan and I live in Holland, on the beautiful west coast of Michigan. I work at a shop called Eclectic Motorworks and we typically specialize in British stuff (MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Healey, etc.) but our main mechanic has been doing VW stuff for years and the owner of the shop has several Beetles and a Thing. We've been expanding and currently take care of several local Beetles, Supers, Things, aircooled Porsches and some other stuff.
Feeling left out of all the aircooled fun I acquired 2 motorcycles ('71 Honda CB350 and '66 Norton Atlas) and just recently acquired a '74 standard Beetle Sun Bug in pieces. Originally I had thought about hacking up the front end and going for a volksrod-ish look - I have plenty of access to Model A parts - but have since changed my mind. It's going to remain fendered and the ratty gold it is for a while, get lowered spindles and just driven as a ratty kinda patinabeetle.
When I got the car it was pretty much disassembled. Someone had started a Baja conversion on it years ago and didn't get very far before abandoning it. They fixed up the pan, put on some beefy rear suspension bits, added an EMPI disc brake front and then let it sit. And sit. It has some small rot in the back corners by the heater channels, but otherwise is a very solid car. It did not come with:
engine
gearbox
seats
front glass
running boards
I have acquired a gearbox for it and will be picking up an engine and back seat from a member here (MadMike) soon. Sadly it's missing a very small but important bit for the sunroof which I'm hunting for, but I have some leads.
Seeking:
Sunroof rail guide pin: www.wolfsburgeast.com/en/online-catalog/search/sunroof/product/Guide-plug-side-sunroof-rail-OEM-313-877-359-2605
Front seats (tripod style)
Windshield (every supplier seems to be backordered right now)
I'm looking forward to meeting a few of you at the Bug Run this Sunday, btw.
