Chrome keeps the heat in. Flat or satin black will run cooler than any other color there is. VW and Harley know what they are doing.

Thanks for the heads up, Dustin and VWnut. I learned about the dangers of chrome while reading about a month ago. Unfortunately, at the time, I had already bought the fan shrowd, the valve covers, the cylender covers, and the front tin(by the transmission) in the crome variety. As for the cylender covers, to me it seems that the air under them would be warmer than the air inside the engine compartment and therefore, you would want as little heat exchange as possible. With the fan shrowd and front tin, I imagine any heat exchange(or lack of) would be negligible to the operating temp of the engine. On the other hand, I can't agree more about the valve covers. I will probably purchase new one's very soon. If you see any faults in my logic or know something I don't, feel free to let me know.

The air inside the engine compartment is just as critical, The chrome is reflective and causes the heat to be transferred back to the engine. Plus most aftermarket tins especially chrome fits like crap which also contributes to engine heat. Make sure everything fits tight and the breastplate seals good. If it doesn't you will be right back to where you started.
