Hey everybody:
I have to have a front bumper plated.
I have found that Italian chrome is pretty terrible...might even make the Chinese chrome used on JC Whitney parts look like German chrome...
Does anyone have any experience with a good chrome plater?

I just saw this and while I don't have any personal experience with them, eventually we at our shop will be sending a few small things to Proctor's in Muskegon as a test. www.proctorsmetalfinishing.net/Home_Page.htmlIn the past we have used Speed and Sport Chrome Plating in Houston, TX and I know an MG shop in the Tampa, FL area that uses them all the time. We had a grille repaired and re-chromed and it came out very nice. We also used John Wright's CustomChrome Plating in Grafton, OH with success years ago replating a set of bumpers, a grille and some other parts that were new, cheap, Chinese chrome. I have heard in recent years their quality has gone down, but I can't speak to it firsthand. If Proctor's does a good job I'd be inclined to stick with them since they're local to me (about an hour away) so I can always check up on their operation. Since everyone has several digital cameras, cellphone cameras, etc., make sure you photograph EVERYTHING you send to a chrome plater, no mater who it is. Include a printed copy of the photographs with your parts. Then you have a good paper trail if a nut, bolt or something more critical gets lost.

Oh yes...photograph EVERYTHING!
I have had things lost in the past, and inevitably, it's a part made of unobtanium. Supposedly there is a place in Flint that specializes in muscle-car and vintage motorcycle parts.
I am headed down to meet him and look at the facility next week. I have heard of Proctor's, no experience with them, but if it Flint does not pan out, I will be sending the bumper to them.
They even pick up in Lansing!
