from my supercross days, drill piston for oil/lube=no scuffing kind of an easy way to balance too

I've heard of dimpling but never drilling. Neat!

Just allows more oil to flow between the skirt and cylinder walls??

But, doesn't gravity work against you here? Wouldn't the oil on the top tend to drain back through the holes? Or, is the splash oiling of the piston enough to push it out through the holes? I usually spin my pistons in a lathe to balance them

This was done on 125cc MXpistons for better lube/cooling on the exhast bridge, made the piston last longer between builds. At 8000 rpm I think the oil will be splashing around may help with cooling the piston? can't hurt,LOL I usually just remove a tiny bit under the crown for balancing with a fat drill bit or my porting tool

I understand how it could be benificial on a more vertical engine, like that of a bike, as the splash oiling WILL make its way through the holes. When you lay the piston on it's side, things change, I can see how the bottom side of the piston would receive what oil is splashed up and drains through the holes, but, on top of the piston, wouldn't the oil that is splashed up to the outside of the piston be more likely to drain back through to the inside?
Just a question... I'm not gonna crawl inside your engine to see what the oil is doing! ;D

I know what you talkin about, but I don't have Porsche Piston squirters or a crank submerged splashing oil(Dry sump or Berg 4qt haven't made up my mind yet?) so it's not an issue, heck the coating is barely worn off (see pic) yea their used for a few passes,LOL
