It already back together. I didnt split the case so I didnt tap it for full flow. I didnt think you could do that without taking it fully apart.

Looks great man. Looks a lot more functional now than it did sitting in your garage a few weeks ago.

F.F. can be done without splitting case. Just remove the pump(got to plug it or the case anyhow) Tap case with 3/8 NPT as see in Bill Fisher's 'How to Hotrod VW Engines'page 93. Hint: get a long nose air chuck and stick it in as far as u can to blow out aluminum chips if u don't trust youself, ,, practice on an old case IMHO there should be no VW on the road/or offroad without a Filter!!!

The cb in/out pumps allow for the addition of an external filter, with 100% filtration (not a "bypass" configuration) and no chance of a stray chip.

They have the fittings on them? I already have the filter set up. Just looked at them. Looks like an easy way to get a filter set up on it. However, they have so many options......what one do I use?

VW used combination filter pumps on the Type 1 engines from the factory on the late Mexican Beetles, long after they stopped importing them into the USA. Aftermarket combination filter pumps available from pretty much any performance air cooled VW store are almost a spot on replica of the VW design. Appletree Auto has several to chose from. The CB performance ones may be a little better quality. Either should work just fine.

Dirk,Problem is with the filterpump they are a bypass filter,, as in NO Filter on start up or HIGH rev's Plus you can't run a Merged Header,,I don't care if VW of Mexico put them on their junk/Bandaid

From CB Performance web site: Maxi Pump 2 - Filters 100% of your oil all of the time. The Maxi 2 guarantees total filtration of all engine oil before it reaches the bearings.

I think ill end up getting a cb pump for it. The one with the hose attachments on it so it will clear the header.

I think ill end up getting a cb pump for it. The one with the hose attachments on it so it will clear the header. Good choice! Many filter pumps are of a bypass design, the CB versions do filter 100% of the oil, due to an additional exit hole that redirects the flow of oil. Unfortunately, they do present clearance issues with some headers.
